I've had many run-ins with the japanese glue. When it's new it looks very much like run-of-the-mill contact adhesive that you would use to glue cork tiles to the floor with. Whatever the chemical composition, it's amazing to see how it ages and that it transmogrifies into an evil corrosive, conductive compound. Considering how it's utilised, it's very ill suited to the job! To add insult to injury, there's no real reason (apart from the transport issue mentioned by John) to apply it to caps or any other electronic component in domestic HiFi gear that's gong to spend most of it's life sitting in one place. They also, demonstrably, splosh it on pin headers and connectors to keep them in place, no doubt so that any vibration doesn't have the potential to mouse the connector off the header, however, the bulk of those type of devices have some form of tab or overpress feature intended to obviate that problem. Alli n all, it's overkill and unfortunately, a measure that can unnecessarily shorten the operational life of a piece of gear.
