Also I am gluing together two sheets of 1/2 inch MDF for the front baffles.

Yes, I was talking about the plate amps, the Hypex 123, or a hybrid 122 with the woofer on one channel and the mid/tweeter on the other. I am uncertain about how they would test, so I think your idea of an external DSP solution would be ideal. Would you build that yourself, or just have 2-4 separate "boxes" for each speaker? Have you found the best DSP solution, yet? And Amps?

Again, I had thought about this before and may go there in the future before all is said and done.

I have no valid information to tell you - just that my Sure 3x200watt T-amp board is noisy, and adding the Sure DSP Board even added a lot more noise...

All in optimal conditions.

So by now I've gotten tired trying to ask for better options and experiences.. I've just ordered a set of 3E audio boards - a tpa3255 2channel board, a single channel tpa3255 board, and a DSP Board.... Just to see how that works out.

I'll let you know once I find the time to connect it all :)

Following this, love to see what you're building.

I have a long term DIY project going based on the idea of the Philharmonic BMR's, I'm trying to design my own 3-ways using a BMR as mid, an Isodynamic Planar Tweeter, and a (sub) woofer driver.

I'll be doing an "active" build - the speaker drivers will be connected straight to outputs on the speaker, and I'll be building one "amp block" per speaker. Each "Amp block" will have a DSP, and 3 class D amplifiers to power each individual driver.
At least, that's the idea - it'll probably take a year or two to get it working.. :)

I’ve just assembled something similar, using two minidsp2x4, Hivi RT1.3, BMR and Dayton RS180p-4.
Fun project.

How's the BMR compared to other midranges, and what Hz are your crossovers? The curly maple looks great!

In this application I am very impressed with the BMR. Large sweet spot and excellent dispersion. Makes the piano sound real, and female voice is stunning. Crossed at 900hz and 3500hz and have not experimented further.
The picture is one with red oak baffle. Still waiting for the curly maple.
When I built these, my intent was to see if I liked them and then perhaps build the real McCoy. However, these are so impressive in active mode, I may stick with them.......until something else comes along.

I've been pondering the same thing. Been modeling the Rs180P-8 with the BMR and various tweeters. While the frequency response looks good, I've got the impedance in the low 3s around 1100 or 1200 so I may see if the 180P-4 helps with that.

Got the sides cut and assembling those in the next few days. Then in to the baffle and assembly. View attachment 77756View attachment 77757
I have plans to build a set of curved BMR's and couldn't find anything on someone giving it a go until I found your post. Ive been working out designs similar to yours with the stacked sides and rod supports down the center. Im very interested to know how they turned out and how they sound. Any picture updates would be fantastic! good stuff man

For connecting the sides, running the rods all the way through was too tight so I wound up making little pegs. Didn’t take too long.

For the final glue up it was done in stages with four cauls and lots of clamps

Very impressive stuff @DeruDog. I imagine that took some planning and various solid skills. :D

Sealing the midrange along with the correct stuffing for it's box is very important with this build. It will completely change the parameters. Just an FYI. Great job on the cabinets!
