Bluesound Node N132 USB-Audio-connection-with-an-external-DAC-fail

I am planning to return my bluesound node N132
Wanted to connect it through USB to my external DAC (N132->Topping D90III discrete-> A90 discrete)

I followed these steps, but did not work, no Sound.

How to enable USB Audio Out on latest NODE models?

So does this mean I really need to install something on the N132?
That seems so weird to me for a 500 euro

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone know why this happened?

Before you give up (I've used USB DAC on an N130):

1. Power cycle the Bluesound device (Esp. if you used the USB earlier for a storage device).
2. Use toslink instead (from Bluesound to D90, presumably with no loss of transparency).
This way you can use the USB for stored music using a USB SSD or hard drive.
