Blue Jeans Cables

So what’s the bottom line for a layman like me who only knows if the music sounds good or not…should I suffer with the poor connection of the Blue Jean cables or go to a different company and if so what company has better connections….there is a lot of snake oil out there…

People including myself have recommended different cables/brands, and things to try to see if it's the BJC or your equipment, even taking some pliers to give your connectors a squeeze to try to tighten them enough to stay on.

Is there something else specific you are waiting for from the people in this forum before you take action to remedy the situation for yourself?

Lots of people here like Blue Jeans, myself that’s the only cable I have owned but changing out my amps and preamps a lot this year has me hooking and unhooking the interconnects a lot maybe 6 times this year and now they are goose loose…but the cable it self seems to be rated high

I would hope you can identify snake oil, usually making special claims about lifting veils and whatnot... ;)

The bottom line is that any good quality cable, regardless of its possibly low cost, will work well... that even at the capacitance levels Don has used in the simulation, you won't experience any degradation.

For you... if you are returning cables, do not play with them: that means don't try to tighten the fitting. Return them and hope for a refund. "Modifying" them in any way will be a certain dismissal of any claim you might have.

If you order from Amazon, you'll be able to return items pretty easy if they don't make a good connection. Other companies may be more challenging. If there is a "locking" RCA plug, as suggested, from WBC, and you don't mind the cost, try it. ;) Connection security shouldn't ever be a concern then.

I am not trying to talk you into trying the Monoprice, so please don't misunderstand, but just using it as an example of something I am familiar with the connection is secure and I have pulled them a few times with no loss of gripping strength. Perhaps it is best stated as there is not necessarily a correlation between cost and perceived quality when it comes to that connection. Just make certain you are buying an all copper conductor and if shielding is important to you, that it is part of the cable. :)

I've really hit rock bottom, as I thoroughly like the Amazon Basics RCA cable which I gather does use decently specified cable. Fit foo plugs and a woven jacket to disguise it and I swear it'd be sellable for £/$500 at a dealers as it's clean up top...

Going back to the OP here, there's a glut of gear out there using RCA socket banks soldered to the board. These things aren't as strong as dedicated screw-on RCA sockets. many identikit RCA plugs (I dare say from the same factory) can be a very tight fit on said sockets and it can be easy to break the socket when trying to remove said plugs as I/we usually twist them upon removal.

Hope the OP can get sorted.

Blue Jeans Cable sells a lot of cables, but we read very few problem posts. There products have a good quality / price ratio.
I can think of 2 cable company's (M.......... and M.........) with many problem posts.

I have never had a problem with Blue Jeans in the past where upon getting a new cable I plugged it in and never removed it, this year was the exception..I wish I could get my video of the problem in here but won’t download…I can’t have my RCA connection sagging down and loosing my connection…I just got the World best cable with locking connections, they connect good but gee the cable itself is crazy not very big around and looks cheap…the connection looks cheap too, tried it through Amazon easy to take back

A few have offered Monoprice. They make some that look very nice, but even the cheap looking ones work. Several of us have offered World's Best Cable. They use the best wire and connectors available. Neither are very expensive. Is there some reason those won't work for you?

Get some Audioquest Evergreen cables. Look nice, well made, and not too ridiculous in price.

I know it’s probably my brain but the Worlds best seem to be more warm then the Blue Jeans…I need to let them play for a couple days..to get over brain problems

There is no advantage in large thick interconnects. Keeping them small makes them flexible. Those use WBC Mogami cables designed specifically for studio use. The Amphenol connectors are some of the best you can get. I have some WBC cable for recording with microphones. XLR instead of RCA. They are pretty thin too. 50 ft length, plugged and unplugged a lot. No problems. If those WBC fit good, don't worry about it.

Ya I will let them play…they connect very nice…my system is very revealing…..First Watt SIT-4 with Volti speakers…nothing measures good but the music is to die for..

My only gripe about Blue Jeans is the weight of the cable, the rigidity, and the moderate clamping force of the connector all conspire to make the RCA sag in the socket.
Here are a Blue Jeans and an Amphenol-terminated RCA from World's Best. Each is ~1 meter, and just dangling on the floor. Hope you can see the amount of sag is just a little bit larger on the Blue Jeans RCA. I can make it wiggle more than the Amphenol connector, but it's really not bad.

I think the termination clamp Blue Jeans uses is superior to most, it has springy contacts inside of a barrel, rather than the typical 1-piece fluted barrel.

My only gripe with this Amphenol RCA cable from World's Best is slightly too tight, especially on some gear. However, they are good in cramped spaces.

Hope the picture helps to calibrate what you see on your gear.

I've tried RCA and XLR cables from Blue Jeans, World's Best Cables, Monoprice, and more.

With experience I have developed favorites in terms of connectors they use.

WBC cables that use Amphenol ACPR Gold connectors have been my favorite so far. Fit is basically perfect, not too tight nor too loose. And the connectors themselves seem very durable and fit/finish is nice.

Edit: The Amphenol posted in the photo above is ACPL, which I have no experience with.

WBC also offer Neutrik Rean RCA plugs on some of their cables. Too loose for me. Also feel cheap IMO.

Blue Jeans currently use Taversoe plugs, which seem very similar to the Canare RCAP plugs BJC used to use. I didn't like the Canare plugs as much as the Amphenol. The internal contact connectors didn't have a lot of give and were either too loose or too tight depending on the RCA inputs/outputs they were connected to. Also if they were too tight fitting, then with constant plugging/unplugging it felt like they were putting too much wear on the RCA inputs/outputs on my gear.

Monoprice had the worst connectors I have tried. Way too tight fit where I felt that every time I pulled them off the RCA connector might come out with it.

XLR plugs don't vary that much in terms of quality in my experience. Most use Neutrik, but even non-Neutrik types have been fine for me because the connection itself is a locking style.

Mine sag more then that must be because I unhooked it a lot…my amp and preamp are on stands like that too..after 4 hours of being on I just had to push it up a little..on the preamp connection…dacs going to,the preamp…the World best going from preamp to amp is still good

Hello everyone,
I posted a thread a while back that I was having trouble with the Blue Jeans cable RCA LC-1, the connection would sag after a few days and loose my connection thus making me push it in again…so I tried a few different brands about in the same price range , didn’t like them so sent them back with Amazon. So pondering and more pondering, I am a big believer in what Amir does but I needed to find out if a very expensive cable is better. I read so many reviews on high end cables costing hundreds of dollars so I picked one…the 1.5 meter cable for one pair was $500…so I order one pair..there was all this marketing stuff, it goes in a cooker for 3 days sending different signals to burn it in and cryogenic treatment but on the phone asking questions about how it’s built all I got is its priority can’t answer…lol..but being he has a 30 day audition period and was recommended by a friend I ordered one pair..lol..
So I received it and I swear it made my system sound lean and I lost something..probably my critical brain power going into overdrive…the build quality was ok but not impressive, the connections where said to be made out of some aircraft aluminum…they fit just ok nothing mind blowing..one thing they were light as a feather …so I sent them back, the builder didn’t like it, he said in the 10 years building cables no one has sent them back..lol..I see the money was just sent to my PayPal account minus his shipping cost and the PayPal cost..so for my curiosity it was a cheap lesson…so I will just keep the Blue Jeans cables and check the connections every now and again…and send the loose ones back for a replacement...thanks everyone for all the comments on my other thread..
