Running a window reversible heat pump unit in reverse mode can cool your room while pumping heat to the outside.

If the air outside the apartment is of low humidity (dry enough at its temperature), you can use an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) to cool the room. You need to be able to bring in fresh, dry air and to vent the humid exhaust to the outside. It requires a supply of water in the evaporater that the fan blows the air over, and you have to quash any mold build-up. Can be very suitable for desert climates.

It's going to cool down loads tomorrow and probably that's it for hot weather this year - I mean this is the UK - so I'd just tough it out if I were you.

I don’t follow this post, aren’t you heading into summer soon? I also thought Europe was facing heatwaves. Did Brexit fix that in the UK?

It's predicted to be 27/28C in West Sussex until Saturday, cooling to 22C on Sunday. Not as hot as the last few days (32-34C), but still pretty warm for the time of year (or as you say, most of the British 'summer' ).

Yes here in Sydney I find 20-25 nice spring/autumn weather, we are getting more >35 degree days with high humidity in summer and lately an increasing number of ~40 degree days which are difficult to tolerate. It will only get worse. Sleeping becomes hard when overnight stays >25 for days. We’re also getting frequent cycles with heat like like that for days followed by cold front and abrupt drop of 10-15 degrees, then repeat, hard to get used to.

I’ve also tried Pinguino for the office so I can still get work done. Functional but as others have said, somewhat noisy but more bearable than extreme heat. Limited power in those integrated portable units generally so hopeless in a large space but ok for a smaller enclosed room like an office. Ceiling fans are good too of course but become less effective in extreme heat.

Planning to install a multi-split Mitsubishi setup in the near-ish future. They’re the only ones I can see with non-white/non-ugly inside modules MSZ-EF or LN series and the PUMY outside units are rated >50 degrees and about 10 dB quieter than average.

Not just for cooling but humidity control and more efficient heating. All my books/magazines etc are deteriorating rapidly these days so require climate control for the office/library at least.

Meanwhile replacing our many single glazed sliding door sets (which make up much of the wall area) with double glazed low-e etc. The architectural stuff is cool but tbh I never imagined I would nerd out over AC. All because governments haven’t done their climate policy job remotely well for decades.

I was quoting Met Office predictions for where I live which is more northerly and up in the hills, so down south will be a couple of C warmer - but 28C is about the same as the Caribbean is most of the time, where people pay a lot of money to go to. I don't find that uncomfortably warm. I'd be fine with that all year round.

Brexit fixed everthing, although you will have to find any remaining brexiters for confirmation on that!

I reckon the issue of heat tolerability where the O.P. lives is a factor of elevated local dew point at a particular moment in time. In regards to indoor comfort building design particulars would also be involved. And windows' passing infra-red (heat) through them is best countered from outside the windows.

Buying air-con for most UK homes works out at about £35 per use.... But they are a trendy "must-buy", if you already own two air-fryers.

Go out somewhere nice if you can. Yesterday, it was lovely on the beach nearby... Nice breeze and quite warm.

Thankyou! Our ceiling mounted Fantasia's can move plenty of air when required! However, noisy on full speed, and that warm breeze, no thank you!

The major flaw with ceiling fans is that heat rises, so all they do is blow the warm heat back down on to you.

I find that a fan placed at or near floor level blows much cooler air.

I don't know what kind of windows you have, but the U shaped window AC units are pretty quiet. I have a couple of the Midea ones and I only hear the fan, which itself is pretty quiet on low speed.
