Bitten by the bug and no control as usual..... B&W 606 s2 AE vs Concept 20?

So...... After spending £229 which is a great price for the Concept 20 I can't help wondering what the B&W 606 s2 AE sound like, seems to be some serious hype.

THREE TIMES the price....

What you reckon, will I be wowed or.....

Read the recent review here of some B&W. I'd stop reading/watching places where such hype prevails and get the most out of your existing set up with in room measurements and eq.

That is some very good, nay EXCELLENT advice - but while measurements are serious business with AMPS and DACS when it comes to speakers and headphones - it's very much about personal taste right? I mean you can not measure detailed seperation, soundstage, and bass accuracy etc can you? For example, I deteste flat headphones, INCREDIBLY ACCURATE they may be, but I hate them, give me the Denon 5200/7200 every single day - they are NOT accurate and I imagine measure crazy ???

Excuse my bad explanation I am hoping you see past that and to my point - I don't REALLY want studio monitors..

I have side by sided several headphones and for example, the H560s and Sundara do absolutely zero for me while the Meze 99 Classic and 2 steps up the Denon 5200 are wonderful and I could not take them off.

All I am saying is, where SPEAKERS are concerned, I think the rules differ from pure measurments providing distortion isn't a factor OFC! (of course - not oxygen free copper)

GREAT ADVICE mate yeah sure I'll just pop down to Richer Sounds in a global pandemic and start having a cup of tea and demoing speakers.

I don't know if you read the review but the 607 S2 just got a headless panther from Amir. I wouldn't go for the 606 S2..

Yes, get a measurement mic and a way to implement room correction. Then you can see what's going on in your room and fine tune the Concept 20s. And of course, very useful with whatever speaker you end up next with.

Do you have the Concept 20s already, what is it about them you don't like? IIRC napilopez listened (and took measurements of) both the 3020i and Concept 20 and preferred the Concept.

Only liking to be robbed or not is about personal taste.

Assuming you mean the Q Acoustics Concept 20, and assuming you'd prefer accuracy, I wouldn't swap them for the B&Ws.

B&W don't come close to matching these measurements:

Or those for the similar 3020.

That said, you may like the boosted bass and treble of the 606s.

Given most modern B&Ws have the same characteristics, and given B&W sell heaps of them, obviously many do.

Presumably that's why B&W, who used to make accurate speakers, have made a conscious decision to no longer do so.

Being generous, their research may contradict that of Floyd Toole and Harman which forms the basis of the science part of this site's moniker. Which is fine. We should all be open-minded.

Being less generous, they don't care about accuracy and instead voice their speakers to sound impressive in a crowded showroom and to gullible listeners. Much like TV makers set their products garishly bright so they stand out.
