Who cares about idiots? If flat is boring, the problem is your music, not the speaker (unless we add the circle of confusion and old material done on shit speakers in the loop).

flat is good, but not necessarily when within a reasonable range. Room and table plays alot, you'd be surprised how much room EQ it would take to bring a flat monitor "flat".

And I would surely add the poor quality of recordings. I am so surprized by some recordings of the 50's and 60's that can give so much emotion compared to some made very recently… With such odd material, a bit odd coloration could be useful :facepalm:
