Beta-test: DeltaWave Null Comparison software

Hi,

New Music app on OSX measurement and Windows 10/deltaw. on OSX desktop with Wmware, with :

virtual LOOPBACK cable end Audio HIJACK : BIt perfect
and Rekordbox 5.7, MASTER out measurement, with virtual cable measurement : with - 3 dB of Headroom : excellent phase, after deleting corrupt Rekordbox .settings file.

Regards,

Olivier

Updated version 1.0.46 of DeltaWave is now available!

Changes in 1.0.46b
  • Added non-linearity plot
  • Added legend and harmonic arrows option to matched spectrum plot
  • In simple waveform measurement mode drift measurement and correction is now working as long as the drift is not overly excessive
  • Fixed Kaiser window not producing correct results when FFT size is equal to the number of samples
  • Turned off curve fitting in phase plot (made the plot too busy and often looked chaotic)
  • Improved the quality of up/down sampling, added appropriate level of dither for the original bit size
  • Changed lower limit on plots to -400dB from -300dB
Non-linearity plot (bits on the horizontal axis):

Harmonic distortion legend (only when measuring simple waveforms consisting of a sine wave plus harmonics):

Hi,

Aiff problem :

juste encode .wav to aiff :

and compare : aiff is not read correctly.

And if i decode again aiff to .wav :

100% bits perfect.

Please cheack .aiff format :)

anyway, thanks for the great job :)

Just tried converting WAV to AIFF using Audacity. Seems to work ok. Any thoughts on what I'm doing different?

Hi,

Uninstalled and installed again delatawav : aiff good now....

Strange, but now ok...

Perhaps because i run DELATWAV in VIRTUALBOX WIN10 on OSX. but it's work now :)

Hi,

Can you help me to understand :

Result without unwrap Phrase option :
Screenshot 2019-12-01 at 09.25.33.png

And now, same result with Phase unwrap option checked :

How i read between wrap and unwrap ?
is phase good, in this case ?

Please help me :

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

On the first plot, where the phase is 'wrapped', you need to zoom in on the Y axis to see what it looks like. Wrapped phase is limited to 360 degrees (+/-180) so you can't see the details when you are zoomed so far out.

The question is what are you looking at? It appears that the match is extremely poor (non-existent, really) between the two files if it's at -12dB RMS. I wouldn't think that phase relationship can be determined properly if the two files are so different as to not match at all.

DeltaWave Version 1.0.48 is now available.

Changes in this version:
  • Fixed some samples set to zero at the end of of a FLAC file by NAudio.FLAC reader
  • Changed drift computation for simple waveforms to produce a more predictable result
I just randomly checked and downloaded it like 2 minutes ago prior to seeing this announcement. I was just lucky in my timing this time. :)

New version of DeltaWave, v1.0.49 is out. This version adds the DF distortion metric as defined by Serge Smirnoff in this thread. Serge's AES paper on this metric is also available.

Instructions on how to use the DF metric in DeltaWave are in this post.

Would be interesting to see how or whether this metric is useful or more accurately describes the audible differences between files than the stock measures already available in DeltaWave, such as RMS difference, correlated null depth, etc.

Thanks for adding this metric!

First test: Lynx L22 analog loopback
  1. 16bit +4dBu/+4dBu
  2. as 1. plus input dither
  3. as 2. plus input HP
Delta of Spectrum:

DF Metric:

not so bad
<change request>
DeltaWave_DF_L22_verticalScale.jpg
allow for better scale alignment.
</change request>

On the other hand when comparing to cd rips using different drives gives a result I do not yet understand:
Track 2_002_LW10-LW37_DeltaWave-DF.jpg

Audition LW10-LW37 gain +68dB gives:

Hi Ulli,

the last result shows 99.99% of the samples are a bit-perfect match so the files are basically identical. The DF metric would produce an infinitely small result in this case, so I clip it at -300dB. Looks like some differences only at the beginning of the clip, but for DF measurements this is not significant due to the median computation.

Live Listening Tests @SoundExpert. S.Smirnof :
The best and most natural way to go into SARTAMPtechnology is to hear it by yourself. You can download thepackage below containing four sound files (44100, 16bit,stereo):
1_ref.wav – reference sound signal (harpsichord excerpt)
2_out.wav – output of mp3 coder (CBR@192kbit/s, decoded)
3_out+6db.wav – the same output with artifacts amplified to 6dB
4_out+12db.wav – the same output with artifacts amplified
DW gives DF Metric for any combination: NaNdB
Is that a "feature"?
TIA
Ulli

partial storno: Correct phase drift was not ticked.
When ticked, numbers appear instead of NaN for all but 4_out+12db.wav

Hi Ulli, can you please post the DF number results for the waveforms that worked for you? I'm away from my computer but will try to run the tests Serge posted as soon as I get back to it :)
