Best speakers around €150

Hi! I'm looking to buy speakers for my PC to use for multimedia purposes (video editing, movies, music, and gaming), and my budget is around €150. I'm not sure if active speakers will be enough or if I should go for passive ones and pair them with an amp. I've read good things about the Lonpoo LP42 (but I'm unsure which amp to choose), and for active speakers, I've heard great things about the Edifier MR4/R1855DB. Do you have any experience with these or other brands in this price range? Or would you recommend used speakers? If so, could you give me some purchasing advice? P.S. I'm aiming for the best fidelity possible, even though I understand that might be tricky within this budget. In the future, I’d also like to get a sound card (for my PC) and a subwoofer

Or would you recommend used speakers?
I would! Personally all of my speakers are used, you can reach for better quality in the same budget... why not?

It depends on your location, but I often see the JBL 305 and 308p for sale secondhand within your budget. They're somewhat better than the Edifier MR4. At low to moderate volumes they have really good fidelity for the money.

If you go for a used speaker, make sure to ask if you can listen to them before purchasing. If you can't listen, don't buy, although if the seller lets you demo, usually it's fine. But you do need to ask.

And welcome to ASR!

Can I also buy a DAC, or is it unnecessary? If so, do you recommend one?
If your PC has an audio output already, it may not be helpful or necessary, but stand-alone DACs may have useful features, and if the output on your PC happens to be really bad, the DAC could improve sound quality.

But definitely don't make it a priority. 150€ barely gets you a half-decent set of speakers to begin with (and doubling the budget wouldn't be hard to justify), and in a majority of cases onboard audio is perfectly adequate.

Erin actually liked the smaller MR3 better than the MR4 overall.

The Lonpoo LP-42A appears to be sporting a classic single capacitor crossover like so many inexpensive speakers, not sure whether you're a ton better off with these compared to Edifier R1280Ts.

can I ask you the differences between mr3 and mr4 and why is mr3 better?
