I liked this a lot, why has it been so loathed by many?
The blockbuster Chinese Movie The Wandering Earth, based on the book by Liu Cixin. Movie has grossed in the region of $700,000,000 worldwide since its release in February 2019. While an enjoyable movie, the book (novella I'm told by the Literary Boffin in our house) is much more engaging.

Prometheus is a superb sci-fi flick. In 3D it's nice too.
The people who downgraded it are from another galaxy far faraway.
I have the 3D Blu Ray, it's awesome.
I also like the '50s stuff including one you didn't mention, namely, This Island Earth.
Among the later stuff I like Children of Men, Moon, Re-Animater, Prometheus, and Inception.
