Once a long time ago, there is also a Japanese version of the Golem myth and I can't remember the name. Some of the Jules Verne adaptations are fun too like Mysterious Island and Master of the World.
How could I forget the original Time Machine and War of the Worlds.
If you include fantasy Ray Harryhausen's Sinbad movies (and Clash of the Titans) are great fun. I saw most of these in their original theatrical release.

I remember seeing this when I was very young, scared me quite a bit: Phase IV.
For pure entertainment value, and the most realistic depiction of how a bunch a' Oil Patch Trash save the world, it has to be Armageddon
