Best ripper software is?

If you have any Linux knowledge, use 'abcde' (yes, it's really called that) which uses cdparanoia to rip the CD - cdparanoia is very accurate and can rip to numerous different formats.

It will also download cover art of a decent size with the glyrc plugin.

abcde also has various configuration options for the paths / filenames etc.
I do use abcde, except when the CD is not in the database; in this case I use asunder (GUI), which allows to enter the missing data and export them to the database.

EAC can rip directly to FLAC.

Note it requires an external program. The download link is in the article.
The compression program flac.exe comes bundled with EAC, no need to download anything.

I've been using EAC for many years now and I like it. The software is very mature and reliable, with great attention to detail. (Hover the cursor over a UI control and it will pop up a tooltip text describing the function of the control.)

Which version do you use? The original hasn't seen a release since 2018, and the forks I've seen on github don't seem to have changed much either. Meanwhile the bug reports go unaddressed.

so far, I only acheive to reset itunes database, still 20% missing, and now my touch screen works with my mini!
it was design for windows, but can't complain, for headless macmini with touchscreen! more fun

Still have the problem, that some of my file play on my iPhone, and not on the mini with music streaming on, but working, when it's off? Strange!

keep working on it,

First, will recover, as much, of my iTunes purchases and burn, maybe not (more than 2000 Title), more like 3 copies + one on the NAS! and one on a SD cards for the mini, just in case..., never know.

still reading, with what i will rip, my CD(ALAC? FLAC?)

nest update, to follow!!

The good news is that both are lossless so you can always change your mind and convert to a different lossless or lossy format in the future. FLAC is more widely supported but I assume everything Apple supports ALAC.

Indeed FLAC is open and universal. ALAC wasn't until Apple realized they were screwing up... as they regularly did trying to keep audio formats captive to their devices.

I use abcde version 2.9.3 from the Ubuntu distribution (24.04). Haven't experienced a bug so far, but I haven't tried yet to get cover art.

Since it's a shell script with more than 5000 lines it's no wonder nobody wants to fix any bugs (you want to know shell scripting, but if you finally know it, you no longer want to use it).

Found out, that Jazz24, have sort of roon like page when listening music, so untill i finish my recovery of my server, kind of fun!

Well, since my database is not working, i turn to the web for music

And bang, it happened, same computer, just streaming radio station to the DAC

Well, i am mesmerizing, by all the web radio station i have discover.

Found a lot, of them, they have a website and the option to listen live! some are lookalike a boosted "roon"

So far, most of them sound better than a app pass thru that addition radio station by style and genre!

I am at the point, why paying for a streaming services?
if i have a 100 to 200$ a year for my streamer subscription, i better encourage those station.

i miss so much the radio host introduction song, the spokesperson, telling small story of the recording.

For me, and based on tonight, it is by far a better experience than my fake spoti DJ or a mix from Tidal on AI algorithm!

maybe local fm radio dying, but on the web, it is alive and kicking! "go fund me" is a go option for them

My observation: for some radio station, it is just a drop off, but others it is "la totale" (art cover; story; fun fact; historic, etc) !

Since i put, my computer on the TV, why pay 1500$ for a 4 inch display streamer (just a good DAC, is enough), when i could have 60inch of pure sound and visual entertainment.

Some radio station, could compete with roon! since info are accurate and feel like reading an art cover!

I will test this for the next month (untill my database is clean).
And, maybe i will cancel, my streaming membership and send my money to those stations! instead

it keep job, not AI job, a real passionate music person and station.
Base on what i discover on those radio and forum, maybe, I will purchase the CD when i hear something exceptional (sorry could not afford lp's anymore!)

I discovered more music in 3 hours on webradio than in 5 years with streaming services!

University radio rule!

Enjoy!
Just good radio

I'm also using 2.9.3 and have no issues with it at all. The metadata is always spot on (currently using musicbrainz) and the covers retrived by glyrc are usually very good too.

I have attached my .abcde.conf should anybody be interested (rename abcde.txt to .abcde.conf).

Was gonna ask about that. I'll have to look for a 2.9.3 version

I used to use EAC but purchased JRiver Media Center several years ago and use it today. It has a nice simple GUI and rips to the formats I use most, FLAC and MP3.

I'm a Linux user.

I use Asunder for ripping, and kid3 for album art tagging.

Discogs for the artwork, and filling in all the info if Asunder doesn't automatically find it.

Just like abcde, Asunder uses cdparanoia to rip the CD. It is really just like a graphical version of abcde.

I use abcde because my dedicated ripping PC is headless (no monitor) and I just ssh into it to rip the CD.

I’ve used EAC for years because it is free. I haven’t paid for a good tagging database, and freedb is kind of iffy.

I’ve spend a lot of time in Media Monkey manually correcting metadata.
My life, too, although I use TagScanner

I did use EAC. Some time ago another forum member recommended dbpoweramp. I do think it's better than EAC, but EAC is free.
