Best no DAC streamer?

had also the idea to upgrade to holo red ... then i saw on few places on the net how people prefer Mercury V3 DAC over the holo red (or at least are comparable, but the V3 is 3x cheaper) ... so, got one and i am totally satisfied. Its an very audible upgrade over denafrips iris in my case as a roon renderer. And the iris was actually not bad at all.

Feed both into a HiFime UR23 for recording and watch them output the exact same signal, exposing any perceived difference as placebo

Hold on - does this thing have a DAC in it? The Mercury V3 would seem to have a DAC, so is the comparison fair?
The Holo claims to be a streamer, so would you not expect its output to be the same PCM as any other streamer?

Both are RPis in a box - I don't know what the control app is like to get you hooked up to your fave internet platform, but it'd need to be decent to compete with the Wiim's UI.

Having a quick look there are now options with and without a DAC, despite the name. It's a development of the Pi2AES streamer.

Edit: differences are in terms of jitter and noise on digital outputs, not data integrity.

Not in my world. "Three times cheaper" is meaningless to me and it's not obvious it means the same as a third of the price.

Who says 'three times cheaper' anyway? Not common the UK. I suspect it's a Madison Avenue marketing 'rule' based on "3" being bigger than "1/3rd", thus always assumed to have more impact. All confusing to me, like saying "150% less" as an example - 150 seems an excellent and big number.
