Very disappointing indeed:confused:
No wonder (some) people advocate Vinyl, not me, but i can see why they do,
it's as usual the industry its-self that screws up while unnecessary.

Pardon my total ignorance on this, but I really don't understand what these values mean. That said, I find Route 96 (which refers to two things: his birth year, and Steve Vai's advice to record and listen at 24/96) to be better recorded compared to The Journey. To my ears, the former just sounds better.

Please don't roast me for my ignorance!

Well,

With Digital, and especially with so called High Rez a DR. of 11-13 (or higher) should be the norm, period!
if the average is just around 7, that means that they actively CHOSE to apply loudness wars, AKA make everything sound equally loud,
because God (or any other Deity) forbid that there's a difference between the loudest and most quiet moments on the record or within a song.

That's why i don't trust the majority of the "Remasters" either.

Some 2 months ago i was listening to a couple of Maiden albums ( just before i went to their latest concert here in Holland) you know, just to get in the mood a bit.
I listened to Somewhere in Time first and then Senjutsu, both from CD, there was a significant difference in loudness at the same volume setting, Senjutsu sounded much louder!

I’m in the same boat as Winemaker when it comes to the measurements.

Do you suspect the CDs are the same as the streams?

I have his first disc on the way and I think Winemaker said the recording was not quite as good as 96.

It is what it is no but I hope as he releases more material the recording quality improves.

You certainly have. Even I, who first picked up a guitar around 1979-80, learned my first licks from The Shadows Greatest Hits and a dog-eared copy of Bert Weedon's 'Play in a Day'. As probably did most budding rockers until the advent of the internet ...
 
Best guitarist evah!!! was Andy Gill of Gang of Four. Immediately distinctive, dry but thrilling, to the point.

The best guitarists ever were probably some other people.

True contemporaries. I’d have to check, but I think Apache came out just before Walk Don’t Run. Doesn’t matter. Both bands had distinctive styles even though they shared repertoire. I’ve lately come to appreciate Link Wray’s powerful sound.

EDIT: Walk Don’t Run was a few weeks earlier than Apache.

Conversely, most people—not audionerds—do not seek maximum dynamic range. Music usually played in the background so it cn be ignored.

Maybe not, my phone "A. I.-ed" me out of the phone call.

Let's just say I witnessed multiple Renaissance-Faire connections, many Dope related. Also talked to a woman at University Press Books on Bancroft Across from Sather Gate, they were "friends", she made him tuna-noodle casserole, he loved it (Homer Simposon drool voice: "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh"), came up with "San Narcisco" when seeing the "Entering South San Francisco sign, San Narcisco, it's the San Fernando Valley, "Kinneret Among the Pines" is San Mateo or Santa Cruz. And there's SO MUCH MORE!!!
