I have the KEF R3 paired with Buckeye's 700W amp, I'm wondering where should I invest my money next? Are there any better passive speakers at hand? I already have room treatment so that is sorted out.
Curious what the community recommends as those speakers were bought several years ago and wondering what's new in the world of desktop speakers.
May I ask what you are doing with a '700Watt' amp, for desktop listening purposes?
A nice pair of active speakers may be all that you really need.
Especially, If you decide to sell your Buckeye: Then, you can even splurge for @3125b's sub suggestion.
He likes to turn it up to 11? Lmao. In all seriousness, that’s killing a fly with a bazooka for any desktop setup I’ve seen. Not to say it won’t do the job perfectly fine, but wow, you probably aren’t getting what that amp can do in a desktop setup. Agree on a sub. Even in smaller spaces they can give you a fun rumble if you can tame them enough. With R3s you already have an amazing speaker.

Ignore the amp criticism. What you have is a buy it for life amp.
To answer your question, yes there are certainly better but you'll have to decide what kind of better you want.
*:Bass and volume can get bigger but so will the bookshelf. How big?
* You could get what may possibly be a better coaxial with the Genelec Ones which may aid in soundstage.
* There are flatter bookshelves if that's audibly better, but may not be.
* A wide directivity like philharmonic audio BMR monitor to some sounds better even up close.
Are there any recommendations for 3-way bookshelf speakers, preferably with ribbon tweeter, max depth ca 25 cm?
They will be driven with an Ampapa d1, 100 w at 8 ohm.
I´m planning to use them with a subwoofer so lower bass is less important, or even maybe preferable if it still fills the gap in frequency and lifts the mids((?).
Vintage, older or new models does not matter.
It seems as I found a pair of philips mcd908 6 ohm speakers, if the deal goes through, that i think will fit my system with subwoofer.
