What is the best DAC-headphones combo for A90 under 2k in terms of detailt retrival and transparency specifically on mid's and high's?

And the question about best DAC-headphones combo for A90 under 2k.
0.5k for A90 and 1.5k for DAC and headphones.2k in total.
I already have A90.
Actually several people do A/B with 1990 and 800's say that they about 10% better than 1990 in terms of clarity while having triple price!

I'd go with the HD80's and a A30Pro. I use a A30 Pro and HD6xx from drop.

hmm sounds like you've done things a bit backwards. You're going to want a DAC that can drive that A90. Others here I'm sure can help with that.

You need a DAC that will drive the A90 to get decent levels. Ideally that would have been the D90SE. That won't leave much budget for headphones.

Topping D10 balanced for the DAC- Dan Clarke audio Aeon 2 Noire for headphones (order with a balanced cable)- job done

How do you mean? It's a 4v dac if you connect it balanced. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...d10-balanced-review-usb-dac.25094/post-852298

The DAC doesn't drive the amp, and even if the A90 can take higher input voltage than 4v, it should still be able to amply drive almost all headphones using only 4v input. I doubt the op is looking at Susvara and the like.

I use a Topping d10b in a lot of Amps and it's terrific. If it was me I'd get that and the Hifiman Aria together to keep in budget, used but nice I see them on eBay for under 1k. Just get the V3 stealth, they made some improvements. I just sold a pair of HD800s two days ago, and they're good but every day I like the Hifiman Ananda better. I bet if you got the D10b and Ananda you'd be really happy and we'll below budget.
