Best Bang for the Buck DAC / Do it all DAC

For 'Do it all' you could consider the RME ADI-2 DAC fs

Does PEQ well
Clever volume control
Neat loudness feature
Competent headphone drive
Good back up
Comes with a hard copy manual !
This 100%. Mine replaced 4 boxes; pre x2/dac and HP amp. I can't honestly see why I would want to replace it. Bang for buck comes from all the future stuff I won't now buy.

My $5 Jcally JM12 can do PEQ (flashed). I think it's hard to do much better until you're buying in quantity from Alibaba.

I just bought and listened to my first “outboard” DAC. It was superior to the DAC in my Fiio CD player. Maybe that is a low bar but DVD Doug should take note. P.S. - Inote that a lot of people listen to music through headphones. I don’t know if this changes the equation, but I listen through monitors.

Imagine my shock when I see the Modi Multibit did not do so well....
I purchased 5 years ago, for the $$, it has served me well but now am on the hunt!
I like the SMSL D200, but have a question more familiar with this stuff...

Does the D200 have a selector switch on the box or is it only on the remote ?

The D200 has the standard rotary dial with a push button, which allows you to control all functions.
