I organize the posts from the General Discussion subforum as a background activity. So is really not much effort on my part. We have some members that are organizationally or otherwise challenged (language, etc.) and often they are the ones posting there. Yes, there is some overall forum unruliness, but is not enough to keep me busy. As mentioned, I have plenty of other projects.
The argument in favor of just leaving this subforum unorganized does not make much sense to me. In the extreme case, if you just having one dumping ground for all posts, why bother with subforums at all. I do not see a single flat topic area deployed in any other functioning major audio forum in my experience. It may happen in personal blogs, but really only works on a small, focused platform. So, as my OP alludes, this subforum is general when no other category applies. Is not a perfect implementation currently but hopefully am helping somewhat. If anything, we could use a few more subforums and planning to implement as Amir can support. Will get there someday (or AI will for us!) but for now, my preference is giving Amir time for more reviews and enjoying some forum participation.
As mentioned elsewhere, ASR is fairly self-moderating. Where this falls short, one moderator is sufficient. When the primary moderator is unavailable, Amir fills in. More moderators can somewhat improve responsiveness but can also have drawbacks. One potential drawback is less consistent moderation as different individuals bring more variability. We tried this before and I know I and other members struggled with inequities that resulted. There are other opportunities for improvement that may call for some added staff, but know more moderators is not Amir’s plan.
