When I was in Australia ( a bit of a beer wasteland imo) I used to drink this..,

It reminded me of home ( Newcastle brown ale) .. The rest of the widely avalible beer I found in Australia was terrible imo.

A very different style of beer brewed by the big concerns here - it gets hot, and what people wanted was something you could down fast, at the end of a hard working day - cold, to get some fluid into the system! Of course the big companies don't try very hard, so best to steer clear of them; that said, we have huge craft beer activity, like many countries these days, and we started doing that decades ago - you can get just about any type of beer you care for, done locally, if you know where to go ...

First beer of the evening. The brewery, Anchor, is both local and one of the granddaddies of the craft beer movement. But this particular beer is relatively new for them, since changing ownership a few years ago.

It's a re-imaging of Anchor's 40 year old Liberty Ale (first brewed 1975) as an IPA. 6.3% ABV

2nd beer of the night. Local brewer / pub / restaurant that only distributes in the local area, but in highish volume given the metro area population (7 million). At 8%, pretty high for an IPA.

I really like gose style beers. Used to be super-rare, Belgian only, now other variants are cropping up. Looks legit!
