Because I have been so good this year…

I was interested in these when they first started discussing them, what 2 or 3 years ago?? Are they powered? Maybe when you go back to bad you can send them to me!

Longer than that and yes.

I think Keith would say no to the last.

I knew the speaker from sight. Was clueless as to the company (despite having avidly researched them a couple of years ago and being extremely impressed by what I found).
But could not come up with a way to remember the company's name.
(Yes, there is an explanation of the name in their marketing but that was skimed over very quicky in the effort to find information on what the speaker design actualy does)
I suspect that only a few people that know Germanic languages would think about it like that.
I was born in Austria & know German & I never thought of it that way.
&, obviously:
I am not the only one that thought it was possibly "the output from a password generator".
Perhaps if someone had explained it this 'GGNTKT phonetically equals GeGeNTaKT way here years ago...
ASCILAB=ASCI LAB and needs little explanation in English. It is quite simple, not complex like GGNTKT is without someone showing or telling you that it can be phonetically said & memorized as: GeGeNTaKT.

A GGNTKT by any other name...

We all have to give and take, or push and pull...

What is this, the most beautiful speaker thread???
Don't think so - that one has looks only a mother could love.

Seriously @Purité Audio they must sound really good to make you consider putting that in your living room :p

Going by the "monopole" tag, the M1 spin data doesn't show the cardioid capabilities.

@roland{at}GGNTKT can you please make the full anechoic data available to @pierre for the M1 and M3? They make actually take the top place, as far as the preference score calculation goes.
Here are further measurements: https://ggntkt.de/en/model-m1/technische-daten/
https://ggntkt.de/en/model-m3/technische-daten/

The M1 indeed has limited cardioid response. It picks up at ~150Hz.
The M3 is more capable there.

We have had far uglier speakers here!
I find the M3 in particular elegant, understated and its form following function.

They will work close to the front wall every ‘proper’ manufacturer suggests positioning between 10-60cm.
I am really looking forward to hearing them.

Ironically, ASCI LAB isn't how you cut the word, it's A Sci Lab for Audio Science Lab. But I agree that the sucession of vowels and consonants in English make more sense for an English speaker.

I am aware of how you cut the word (and what it means), but I also like to play with words. Such that Deep Purple comes out Shallow Lavender. Just havin' fun.

I like them too!
The hope is that Phil Ward ( SoundonSound ) who has just finished reviewing the AsciLAB A6B will also review the GGNTKT M1.
Phil really is the best he has considerable experience as part of the review he measures the speakers, is himself a speaker designer ( working on an interesting project at the moment) and really honest.
The SoundonSound magazine is very much ‘pro’ audio based, the M1 could be used as a near/mid field monitor.
If you have a chance Phil’s reviews are worth a read.

Sorry, I missed that post...

GeGeNTaKT isn't that hard of a name to remember. The abbrevation kinda sucks though, I agree. FYI @roland{at}GGNTKT.
You successfully decoded our name!
It's all part of the game for people to wonder about and discuss the name, so it's better remembered ;)

I guess our website needs to be updated, since we have the 3rd revision of Model M1 (R3) with newer presets and a different tweeter (same as Model M3).
So yes, there is a "low-cardiod" preset to about 150 Hz and sub-cardiod to about 40 Hz. Also two near-flied setups. No Monopol anymore.

Model M3 is more capable in regards of cardioid-steering and of course SPL.

...

Really happy that Keith is getting his black Model M3 soon.

Makes sense as violins are famously known for providing the measure.

Although a spelled out “Gegentakt” has a somewhat more classic Audiophile appeal, I still think a good typographer would create a better, more memorable brand from the full word, which is actually quite elegant.

Very funny to learn I had mispronounced the other speaker brand with the somewhat heady naming scheme. I guess y'all funny producers should help us with some phonetics transcription. Maybe print it on the speaker :)
