Battle of RCA Cables: Mogami, Amazon, Monoprice

Given Behringer's noisy amps and crossovers, I wonder how clean these connectors are? Better than Amazon Basics? How much less than Neutrix?

How clean?

My concerns are things like mechanical integrity, ruggedness, quality of the solder cups, conductors. How consistent is the overall quality, dimensional specs. One article says they start at $1.90. Neutrik are like $3-4. That's probably not enough of a difference to make me want to change brands. I've used Neutrik for ages with very few issues, for live sound and guitar cables etc. I need cables that are dependable.

100% agree. Unless someone has 20 interconnects, why go through the headache for less than $4/cable? Tracking down problems is never fun.

At least in the US, the (Rean) Neutrik RCA plugs (at least the ones I use ) are not expensive at all.

Very tight RCA connectors are known to damage the female receptacle by ripping out the ground metal part.
Yup. :(

From the thread link above -- look at the "CD" jacks on this (as-found) poor little marantz integrated amplifier of yore.

Yes and gravity. Have too many levels in my rack. Also original Mcintosh RCA Jacks. Have foam levelers below certain cables to relieve the strain on the Jacks.

The good old-time RCA plugs typically had four leaf (so to speak) outer connectors that could be gently squeezed a wee bit with a pair of light-duty pliers when needed, to ensure that they gently caressed the RCA jacks of their time, ensuring a snug but not chafing fit! :)

You don't want them to be like the chick in Titanic:

Thx. Wish my MC7270 had balanced xlrs. Would solve it. One of the dumber reasons why I want to upgrade my amps.

Rean is Neutrik's less expensive Chinese made product line. Maybe that's who Behringer is going after with Neutrik looking parts. Make you believe you're getting Neutrik quality for about the same money as Rean.

Yeah seriously. There's many options like this, and in the end you really only want a sturdy plug that meets all needs in terms of being sturdy and easy to solder (if you make your own cables). I can recommend these Amphenol types too:

Full lacquered metal, sturdy, nicely spacious inside. Thicc 6-7mm diameter cable still fits. Pretty much endgame quality at around 2 moneys (€$£) each.

And for XLR, the usual Neutrik types are 4 moneys each and perfectly fine. There's really no reason to skimp on that if you only need a few cables. All in all line cables are super cheap to make yourself in great quality. Arguably you could buy a whole toolset including soldering station and make half a dozen cables, for the same money as the same number of readymade ones from a reputable company.

I'm stuck with those for the color alone,I love them!

I thought it was ream, and the past tense reamed.

Luckily, older amps like this have loads of spare inputs, for stuff you haven't got any more, that you can use. :)
