I thought about asking here without opening a new separate thread: do you have any suggestions of movies that give your subwoofer a run for its money?

I compiled a short list mysef, forgot to add the Collateral briefcase scene, the entire Mad Max: Fury road movie, Fury and well... anything by Chris Nolan, especially Inception, Dunkirk and Interstellar.

I look at the AVSforum thread "The Ultimate List of BASS in Movies w/ Frequency Charts".

What does the green and red lines represent in the graphs?

Green = Peak db (Loudness) at that given frequency
RED = Average db (Loudness) at that given frequency

The space between the Green and Red lines shows how Dynamic the track is.
The wider it is at any given point the more dynamic, the less space between the less dynamic.

Thanks for pointing out that thread. Unfortunately I found it too time consuming to find out how they did these graphs. And looking at them I wonder if some of these have been captured with a Low Cut active. For example A Quiet Place, Rampage, Sicario, Fast and the Furious 2001 and the Matrix are clearly treated with a Low Cut (or High Pass). The Nun would be an example for a more natural curve due to missing sub-sub-bass. The Hurricane Heist would be an example of an infrasound rich, completely unfiltered one, with The Incredible Hulk 2008 even worse, looking like it has a DC problem on top.

Now maybe someone here can answer the simple question: are these graphs all 'correct' in what they show in the area below 20 Hz? Were they taken from the same guy in the same conditions and with the same method?

Just for fun...
This is from a MKV file, converted to FLAC, then ran my script on it.

Here's the same, but I modified the script to only be below 50hz (so essentially shrinking and extending the scale).
FOR %%A IN (%*) DO sox %%A -n remix - rate 100 spectrogram -z 60 -o "%~dp1%subdirname%\%%~nA.png" -t "%%~nxA"

Yes, it’s the whole movie. The scale is auto-generated, and it’s in seconds by default, so probably kiloseconds.

I think you should normalize the tracks, or use some auto-scaling for the dB value so the loudest part is at 0dB. look at Godzilla 1998 for example. there doesn't seam to be much over -40dB, so you have a very small range there

Okay, I've changed the dBFS scale from the default 60 (used the same up till now), in increments of 5, up to 100 now.

Here's the results for Dune 2021:

I've re-ran the Godzilla 1998, and something is wrong with that audio track.
Here's another one:

At least it's consistent with the others now.

Mr. Nicolai delivers again:

BTW with this one I experienced Amir's famous Vibrating Earlobes Effect™ for the 1st time:oops: courtesy of the THX887 and my good ol' HE4XX (EQed).

I'm EQing mostly by eye and by the nice graph I stumbled upon here on ASR (can't remember who posted it, apologies for not crediting the member). Someone pls run a proper spectrum on this and also on post#158, so I can understand what's going on;) Thanks!
Bought the album (format: CD Good enough for me) and ripped it to FLAC. Just a screenshot. There's a peak at 90 Hz.

DR8 -0.20 dB -10.66 dB 7:30 03-HYbr:ID oval blackhole

Awesome track. Nicolai FTW!

still think the script should meassure the overall peak and set it to zero in order to compare the movies covering the same dynamic range on the graph. in the last example you have a 100dB scale but the peak is -25dB ish. on the other hand the Godzilla movie seams to have the peak down at -40dB-ish. to compare those two they need to have the peak at same level
