Hey all

Can I use amp speaker output to feed subwoofer mono RCA input, using this adapter?

The high power of amp output will not damage sub's RCA input?

The amp speaker output will only be under 80Hz and will not be full level. Will be used with room correction software and be attenuated signal obviously
@solderdude

The sub does not have speaker input directly, and my DAC does not have unbalanced out and there is specific reason I want to use amp

Not in a million years.
Imagine the impedance the amp will see and the voltage that the sub will take.
It would be different if it had speaker level inputs with the circuit to endure it.

Subwoofer has amp

So the low voltage sub input (line level) gets amplified

If I turn the sub's volume down, then the speaker amp's high voltage output might be ok? Or way too high?

Yes I mentioned it doesnt have speaker level inputs. That would be ideal.

Ok I wont order these adapters lol

is there a cheap external box that can convert speaker level to line level?

Even if there were no issues regarding line level vs speaker level (which there are), the particular adapter in your pictures appears to directly short the Amp's speaker output pins.

Bad idea if you want your Amp to keep working for any amount of time.

Another question before we get there:
Will the amp also drive speakers?
Found this at local shop and it works!

Yes amp has been driving speakers for years

I am using 8 channel AVR for 3-way DIY DSP crossover active speakers

Since I can use remote control volume, I want volume to also affect subwoofer outputs

This Denon AVR can drive 4ohm loads easily which all the drivers are

It is currently working

AVR speaker outputs go to the subs now via this adapter.

Cant use the preouts and 2 subwoofers outs weirldy so i had to do it this way

These will work but as there are little transformers inside lowest subbass notes might be lower in level than expected.
They are intended for car audio so even work with balanced speaker outs (and is why there are transformers inside).
Fortunately you have room correction so aside from the added distortion the frequency response won't suffer.

The adapter you originally planned may have worked when you would have also bought an RCA attenuator but chances of ground loops would have been lurking around the corner and if the used amp was balanced would have caused problems.

Here's a DIY adapter that could do what you want in combination with the cable converter.
