I take a kind of perverse pleasure in listening to music which is so bad that it is unintentionally hilarious. I am sure that the Germans have a word for it.

Take this video from North Korea ... "Warm hearted like your mother, benevolent like your father ... let's sing of Kim Jong-Un, our Great Leader!". Look at all those happy people! So much joy! Much mixed feelings on this one.

Third world dictators feature a lot. Here is Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov's rap video. Yes, the 60+ year old President of Turkmenistan appeared in a rap video with himself rapping.

There are some other videos I can think of (like a certain former President's election video featuring a super cringe musical) but I don't want to turn this into a political thread so i'll leave that one out.

Then there's this one by Silver Convention. It is so 70's that it hurts. Big hair and bad haircuts, nude women painted in gold, huge moustaches, women in jumpsuits, and motorcycles! Then there are the dance moves. Why are they punching the air like that?

Well, there is the sad and bizarre story of The Shaggs: three (sometimes four) teenage sisters forced by their father to form a band because his mother had foreseen (by reading his palm) that they would be famous and successful. The sisters had apparently no musical aptitude or interest so the result was inevitably ... a cult classic!

I love this song, but the singer is SO pitchy that it's a struggle to get through the whole cut without screaming.

We do actually.

The German word "Fremdschämen" translates to "vicarious embarrassment" or "secondhand embarrassment" in English. It describes the feeling of embarrassment you experience on behalf of someone else, usually because their behavior is awkward or inappropriate. This sensation occurs even though you are not personally involved in the situation.

Example in a Sentence

  • I felt a strong sense of Fremdschämen when my friend started singing off-key in front of a large audience.

I think cringeworthy is an english equivalent.

That. Is. AWESOME.

How can you do better than having been at a Queen gig back in the day? Now I know. Wow. They know how to put on a show.

I'm just not sure what bad about it.
You truly believe it's the N. Koreans singing/playing this? :)

Senior Citizen Choir sings the Hip-Hop classics.

I suppose this isn't strictly 'bad' music, but I can handle only so much of chiptunes before I'm looking for the mute button or just give up playing.
