Bacurau

Watched it last night on tv, second time.

If you like weird films. Too complicated to tell about it, but...a somewhat remote village in Brazil...[interesting to see the mix of people]...the entire village...
"...we have taken a strong psychotropic drug..."

Bacurau review – wildly entertaining Brazilian weirdness. A rural community comes under attack in a thriller with anticolonial overtones.

Bacurau review: a weird western for menacing times - BFI

Sounds interesting, 82% on rotten tomatoes - I've got some Google video credits I need to use and I see it is available there, will watch this weekend!

The reviews [snippets] or descriptions i saw when I googled it were...not anything I'd have said. Not aligned. The socio-political and reference to "anticolonial overtones", well, ok, I did sit there afterwards thinking "ok so it shows...that...and this..." but...ok, "overtones", but it was more of a farce. Ok, there were some comments [in the dialog] that were obviously deliberate, almost cliches, but...[?]
I do find it interesting - Brazil - compared with South Africa.

Quite weird how some different movies show up on SABC, in between all the usual dross.

Two previous films by one of the co-directors are well worth tracking down, Aquarius (2016) and Neighboring Sounds (2012).

Absolutely brilliant films. Kleber Mendonça Filho is one of the greatest filmmakers working today. Note that these are very different from Bacarau, which is more like a midnight movie (though with the same political edge as his other works).

@Katji I watched Bacurau over the weekend and what a great, quirky movie! I love movies like this, very Quinten Tarrantino esque. Thanks for the recommendation!
