I have a sudden, background crackling noise whenever i play aound, whether in DAW or web browser.
im uising a focusrite scarlet solo 3rd gen with heasdphones plugged in.
I have tried the following steps but issue persdists.

uninstall drivers focusrite USB in device manager
reinstall drivers, reset to defaults in focusrite control
test all bit rate and buffer options - no improvement
test another cable
test another usb port
remove daw and reinstall
repair windows and reinstall

I have removed teh gold plated adaptor and plugged small headphone jack into headphone port on pc and the issue is not present, only present when connect gold adaptor and plug into scarlet, this is essential for me as im going through the scarlet into and out of my daw. simply using teh port on the pc defeats the purpose of an interface.

anyone experienced this and found a fix?

Could be as simple as your headphone adapter (3.5mm to 6.35mm?) they are cheap - try another one? (don't worry about gold plating)

Have you tested the interface on another computer? Sure sounds like it's got a problem of sorts (maybe a bad electrolytic or XMOS chip, it happens). Does the problem also affect recording? How old is the thing?
Thank you for your reply, the problem does also effect recording yes and the device is several years old, i bought some headphone adaptors and the issue is resolved, 3.5m to 6.5m must have developed a sudden fault
