BACCH4MAC Short Review / first impressions

Also, I have found a way to use Bacch Audiophile (with headtracking) and ORC to operate effectively in a dual subwoofer configuration in a acoustic treated room. All that is needed is a preamp to manage the crossover point, set the subwoofers to stereo mode, and configure the necessary delays/distances. My subs are close to my dipole fronts. A Anthem STR PRE, Minidsp preamp, or a Lyngdorf will do the trick.

I really do love what Bacch does to music.
I am using ART, with LR speakers supported only by subwoofers. It seems to be working OK.

What is ART?

I did the same but with BACCH4Mac Intro, without ORC. And that (DIRAC with BACCH4Mac intro) worked fine for me too. I've never tried Bacch Audiophile with ORC and DIRAC or ARC genesis, because dr. Edgar Choueiri advised me not to use any form of DSP icm ORC.

Do you use your subs in mono or stereo?

Mono. Also, although I am not doing it now, but used before with DLBC, one can limit Dirac Live to operate below say 200Hz - then they should not interfere with each other. I am not doing now, because nowadays, from time to time, I also play Atmos music.

I use Ubacch in two setups and while it can sound very cool with certain programme material with other material there are definitely audible artifacts sounding a bit like aliasing. Caveat emptor.

Could you comment on which preamp you are using?

Fortunately I’m still on the intro version!!

Can someone explain what the new Stratos module does?
Virtual 7.1.4 basically. I tried this with b4m and analog inputs for 5.1 into the UCX and it worked but had paging issues and required a personal HRTF to work well. It had some odd phase issues going on. I suspect stratos new measurements fix those issues.

It simulates a 7.1.4 setup using only 2 speakers. I believe cross talk cancellation is the foundation of the product. I'm typically skeptical of such emulators, but after owning BACCH4Mac for nine months I can say the spatial effects are not like any other I'm personally familiar with. I'm supposed to have Stratos installed this week, and can offer subjective comparisons to my 9.1.2 after some time.

Does anyone know if the Stratos module can be used with e.g. local 5.1 FLAC files or multichannel audio from a USB bluray player? Might be nice for SACD, music DVDs etc.

I have a 16/512 M1 Mini running Sequoia, and a Thunderbolt Lynx Hilo AD/DA. Speakers are Genelec 8341A nearfield.

Will B4M work with this interface?
Is the $980 annual or lifetime?

If the player internally outputs multichannel pcm it should be fine afaik.

The cost of the system is a one time charge but to get software updates and support it’s an annual fee. I started with uBACCH and bought the upgrade every year vs just paying the fee.the system should be fine for b4m and there is a way to use your own DAC.
