BACCH4MAC Short Review / first impressions

Do I need Edgar to configure the UCX II?

I'm having trouble contacting dr. Edgar for almost a year now. He does not respond to any or my mails (4 or 5 now). I am a bit mad about that, and it also worries me. Is he in trouble keeping track of his customers? I pay for service, but he does not deliver.

What is the best way to integrate subwoofers with BACCH Audiophile Pro and ORC?

I stepped through this w Edgar; in the end I backed out because there's no time alignment function in ORC with subwoofers. Because of that, I still use my convolution filters designed by Mitch @ accuratesound.ca. should that feature ever be added, I'd probably purchase ORC

Now that I've worked with him a few times, i share this concern. I haven't seen any obvious progress on this issue, although new plugins and speakers are being released. There's not even a manual for B4Mac

Thank you for your reply.

Edgar told me that I should not use any form of DSP (in DIRAC or ROON) in the chain before/after ORC. So I cancelled DIRAC. But with DIRAC I had better results up to 100Hz.

What is the best way to integrate subwoofers with BACCH Audiophile Pro and ORC? I use two subwoofers and currently set the crossover using my NAD M33. However, I'm wondering if it's possible to connect the RME Babyface directly to the subwoofers and configure the crossovers within BACCH, in order to achieve better results. At the moment, I'm having some trouble getting a flat SPL up to 100Hz.

(and yet: the combination of my planar-magnetic fronts with subwoofers is pure magic. no complaints. but i'd like to get a flat SPL to 100Hz also)
I plan on using the Babyface Pro XLR outs to power a pair of Rythmik subwoofer plate amps. I will be using the crossover function in the B4M.

The RME manual says this:

The electronic output stage does not operate servo-balanced! When connecting unbalanced equipment, make sure pin 3 of the XLR output is not connected. A connection to ground might cause higher THD (distortion) and power consumption!

So I bought a pair of cheap XLR-F to RCA-F adapters and clipped pin 3.

I also had a thought in my system to integrate the BACCH with my home theater subs in the same room. I have sanders ESL’s in a separate system in the same room as my home theater system. The home theater subs use a mini-DSP and Multi sub optimizer from a single out of my home theater receiver. I was thinking to get a duplicate output pair from my UCXI II to run into the MiniDSP to create a second set of inputs. This was my idea, too much work to wire up and coordinate explaining to Edgar. That’s why I’m buying the BACCH-sp adio as it’s much more easily configurable without Edgar’s help and I was to use BACCH in many different places and ways. The BACCH-sp takes months to get once ordered so I’m still waiting.

So, maybe limit Dirac to say 200 Hz? That would allow multi-sub optimization.

I experienced similar problems.

Have you already done this? If so, could you explain exactly what you did?

I guess when you use an XLR-to-RCA (tulip) cable, the signal ends up being unbalanced because of the cable itself...

I’ve been watching some YouTube tutorials on how to connect my subwoofers to the Babyface, but I’m a bit nervous. I also tried to understand the crossover functionality in BACCH (I’ve previously used miniDSP for setting crossovers and configuring inputs and outputs), but BACCH feels more complex. Altogether, this is a bit too much to explore and hope for the best:
  1. Create a new zone in Roon
  2. Create an aggregated device in the Audio MIDI settings with the right in and outputs
  3. Configure BACCH with new input and output channels
  4. Set up crossovers in BACCH
  5. Configure TotalMix
I’m afraid I’ll mess up all my current settings. I think I really need a manual—or the help of dr. Edgar.

That's a good decision!

Edgar told me not to use DSP together with ORC.
Interesting, because he told me exactly the opposite once I mentioned ORC wouldn't really work for me without time of flight correction for subwoofer integration

I have a pair of GR Research Triple Threat subs currently at an automotive paint shop along with a pair of NX-Tremes. Edgar is going to guide me through the process once I get the units back. Here are the XLR/RCA adapters I modified. It was simple to open the units and clip Pin 3.

Let us know when it's done? And how it's done?
