Generally B&W is not recommended on ASR. They have a house sound that impresses in the shop, but gets tiring when listening at home.

Erin describes it well here:

"Response linearity is very poor. Many in the audio circle discuss the Bowers & Wilkins “sound” with respect to the treble bump and this speaker is no different. The treble is 3-5dB higher than the midrange which yields an extremely unbalanced and - in my opinion - unnatural sound. It is quite fatiguing."

I’ve had experience with fatiguing audio and it gets really annoying after a while, nothing a little equalizer tooning can’t fix, but then your messing with the natural sound of all your tunes in general

That is absolutely not true. While B&W may not be a lot of ppl's cup of tea, the above statement seems to be opinion and hearsay. I've heard them both and they do not have the same sound. I would be interested in the D4s but they are a bit too pricey.

I didn't say they sound the same, i.said similar and if you look at their frequency responses you will see the bat wing house curve with the dip in between the wings around the crossover point.

Why would it be hearsay for me? I've heard both at the same dealer in similar rooms.; albeit, different vintage of electronics.

As I said, not everyone will like them but there is a difference.

WRT to the above comment referencing measurement, not everything needs to have the ideal graph. The D4s sound really good (may not be worth the MSRP) but good nonetheless. I would not exclude them from consideration just because of an analysis graph. Other criteria may part of not choosing them.

Different rooms and not level matched could explain any difference you heard along with sighted bias. Also, what vintage electronics?

I am currently looking at the Canton website, they have such a range of speakers, have you ever heard any of those ?¿???¿hmmmm

Neither design their own drivers, waveguides, phase plugs, or front baffles AFAIK and both tend to use shallow slope Xovers.

Perhaps as a result of that, their speakers tend to have more issues with on-axis frequency response and directivity.

Personally, I'd put them a step below the brands on my list, but feel free to disagree

I don’t know enough about Ascend, but generally would consider most Buchardt speakers to be good to excellent. This one for instance:
