Axpona 2026 Show Intro

Was happy that my doctor prescribed Paxlovid for COVID. Then I get to the pharmacy and they tell me I owe them $820!!! I asked them if insurance refused to pay. They said no. That the retail cost was $3,300 so the $820 was my deductible!!! Son of a ?*$!??....

Wow!
In Australia if you fall into high risk category its like AU$25. Even cheaper, AU$7 if your a pensioner - had to buy recently for my father. If you dont meet high risk criteria then it is well over AU$1k.

This is why our health care system is broken. The poor just suffer or die.

Hi Amir,
You might want to try Costco Pharmacy. I have a drug where my insurance price was almost $600 but by paying Costco without insurance the cost was about $60. Crazy pricing for drugs here in the US.

WOW!!

That's almost the price of a pair of interconnects!

Seriously, thanking you for taking one for the team (even if that wasn't the plan), and wishing you a speedy and complete recovery. And thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time when we bumped into one another.

Yikes! Did you get it? I’ve had COVID four times and it wasn’t bad. I’d gladly take another case before I shell out $820 for meds. That’s insanely expensive.

I did. I am glad because symptoms started to get much worse. But by morning, after taking just one dose, there was marked improvement. Never seen a drug make such fast progress. Doctor said patients report getting better in just 2 days! I was kind of late taking it so may take longer. Still, this is powerful stuff.

From a medical standpoint, Paxlovid is "unpredictable" and can significantly affect how other medications work in the body. That’s why it’s good to give your doctor a complete list of all the medications you’re currently taking, as otherwise there could be unpredictable interactions.
Get well soon, Amir

Thanks. Both my doctor and pharmacy went over that and had me stop one of my medications. Fortunately the rest were compatible. Saw the list online and it is quite long!

OMG,

That's a lot of money, not sure what it would cost in Holland at the moment though.
It’s about 1150 euro per treatment (5 days, 2x per day 3 tablets) pack in the Netherlands. It’s not prescribed often, only by medical specialists.
Dutch deductible is about 385 euro per year, so the max you pay is 385 euro. We have a pretty decent medical system here.

so sorry to hear of the diagnosis. :(

Now, I want to brown nose a little bit - with apologies!
I have never seen anyone do as comprehensive and organized an overview of any audio fest as this fusillade of posts, impressions, photos, and music as has been crafted and uploaded by our sadly suffering host @amirm!

Most impressive, most interesting, most entertaining, and most informative!
Thank you.

... and get well soon.
