Axpona 2026: April 10th through 12th

It was nice to see a WiiM Ultra at venue full of fancy-pants equipment. It was connected with equipment from Dayton Audio in this photograph.

The show was a zoo. Elevators from hell with long lines. Still, a lot of good music was heard, relationships created and/or renewed. But I only hears two floors. Have tons more to see!

About the elevators, I had to use the stairs for a while (from around 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.). From what we were told, the elevators would not move if there were too many persons in them. I had to get off three different elevators because of that.

Actually they do. We got on one on 4th floor going to lobby. It proceeded to go to level 12! It then went to level 5. Then level 6. It would refuse to go lower! A couple of people got so made, screaming profanities, making us concerned for our safety! They got out at another random level and then the thing happily went to the lobby.

Before that, we took a set of stairs that kept going lower and lower, only to be met with a blocked door with alarm! The climb back was a pain. Hence the reason we stuck we tried the elevator.

Never seen an elevator with no alarm and random behavior like that.

Oh my . . . that was quite a ride you had. And I, too, wound up at one point at a blocked door with an alarm. I hope the elevator scene will be better tomorrow.

After checking in on Friday I went right to the 16th floor and worked my way down using the stairs. I had a short list of places to stop since I was only there for the day so it worked well but seemed like several other people had the same idea. Another pic of a room I liked for the set up and decor Dynaudio.

I was thinking I would do the same thing if there! Hopefully the stairs are easily found/accessible, as they should be as a fire exit.

Big thanks to everyone taking photos.

End of each hallway both east and west sides, easy peasy.

Was there from today from 10 - 3, covered off over a dozen rooms. Surprised how busy the floors were for Friday. My favs were the $18k Quad panels, the new Revel line along with the Yamaha room. Have not been since 2018, wish I had planned for at least one more day.
I was there Friday, underwhelmed although I have to agree I liked those quad speakers

Was there a model number? The website shows a new "X" series
I didn't catch the model number they were big electrostatic speakers. I am usually not a fan of electrostatic speakers however, these sounded awesome. Also I found the company representatives very nice and receptive to my questions. I have been thinking about their revela 1 speakers which they had there not hooked up and the rep told me come back later and he would see what he could do. As opposed to the Mofi room where they had the source point 10's hooked up and I asked to audition the 888 and they said they couldn't do that.

What do you think that says if anything about the state or health of the high-end industry?

Ever since I got into the hobby in the mid 90s I’ve been hearing “ high end audio is dying” and yet it seems to go on and on. It seems many high end audio shows are well attended. In fact, as far as I can see there’s as many or more high audio shows as ever.

Things to know about the building:
- 4 stairway wells, but only one goes to the lobby. The other 3 go to emergency exits.
- not all elevators go to the upper floors.

Best advice- get there early, start with the elevator to the top floor and work your way down.

After that if you get through it all, then go to the mezzanine with all of those rooms and larger demo areas.

One of the busiest high end shows i have seen. Folks ask how much something is. When they hear $20,000, they have a sigh of relief that it is not expensive!!!

@amirm any interest to demo your Ascilabs line up at one of these shows? Really stir things up

Enjoying the pics and feedback from everyone

Chatting with one industry guy, apparently things did pick up during the pandemic and has sort of kept going despite the cancellation of Axpona. Second point I noticed is there was more concern with room acoustics, easy to discuss with the speaker guys what they were experiencing and then treating, seems that there were actual measurements done in some rooms…go figure.

Anyone notice the new room decor…sort of like leaves applied to the ceiling…was in the Yamaha room and someone pointed them out…I said to the guy next to me that it was the latest high frequency room tuners…the latest invention. Everyone had a good laugh including the guy from Yamaha. Snake oil…still alive and well! Lol

Benchmark electronics: LA4 preamplifier, DAC3 B, AHB2 amplifier). In the first photograph are Studio Electric loudspeakers. In the last photograph are Aretai Contra 200F loudspeakers. The bass reproduction from the Aretai speakers was impressive---seemed unreal, as if there were a subwoofer or two in the room, but it was just the Aretai speakers.
