So I've bought a new TV and ran in to the "problem" everything else doesn't match up to the specs of the TV anymore. My current Marantz NR1606 only supports up to 4k 30Hz instead of the TV's 140Hz and I also wanted to upgrade my speakers for some time now which are EBTB Terra 2's with the subterranean.

I want a AVR mainly for the 4+ HDMI channels support and having only the need for 1 HDMI to my TV.

For example:
I've looked at the Marantz cinema 50 to pair with a set of Sonus faber sonetto iii G2's and an active sub.

Is this a reasonable way of thinking or am I wasting a lot of money on a AVR with a lot outputs I don't use?

Seems you are looking for hdmi 2.1 more than the avr features of multichannel? The 3800 is a good suggestion for its room correction versatility and price point. There are some great integrated amps for around the same money but you would have to use a switch with your devices. Most people are looking to upgrade for gaming and it would be hard to find a better value. I actually think the Denon isa good investment for the money. The only other option to consider is maybe the rz30. I saw it on Best Buy for $800 but have no experience with that amp, however.

Perhaps the latter

Do you foresee yourself adding more speakers/subs... ever?

I'm not sure how many HDMI inputs you need, but if you're going to stick exclusively to 2.1, have you considered running HDMI sources into your tv, and having the tv run a single cable to the amp/avr via eARC? There are some 2.0/2.1 products which would fit this bill and cost you less than a Denon 3800 (which is a fine machine for a surround or atmos setup).

The reason I chose the Marantz above the Denon is purely aesthetics, but otherwise it would've been a good option too. I don't want to run my HDMI sources through my TV because it's hanging on the wall and I don't want all the HDMI cables just hanging there.

It seems that either unit can do what you want and are great choices based on features and specs, imo better value than Onkyo's RZ30 or RZ50 (depending on your needs). If you are in the EU, and you like the look of the C50 then it is an easy decision (price difference typically Euro $ 200-300, but in the US and Canada the price premium for the C50 over the X3800H is typically around $1,000 based on list prices. Still, if the aesthetic to you is important then go for it, as you will be looking at it for years.

Most 2.0/2.1 integrated stereo amps do not have room correction, and yet they are not that much cheaper.
If OT has to have marantz due to aesthetics, that's fine, but Cinema 50/x3800h are the cheapest options that have Audyssey XT32 and can be upgraded to Dirac.

you could get something with a single HDMI input like the Marantz M1 and plug most of your HDMI devices directly to the TV, feeding back to the Marantz over eARC.

I would advise against that. eARC is fine but should not be the default solution. That means your TV will be the player. Very limited selections of apps, and you have to turn it on even if you only want to listen to music. I used shield and can play without my TV turned on.

There are always the Wiim products... Which have room correction and are smaller and cheaper!

In any event it wasn't clear if room correction was a want/need for the upgraded product. If RC isn't important but connections are, the cinema 70 might also fit the bill. Marantz aesthetics, slim form factor, 6 HDMI inputs, but limited room correction.

And as mentioned above, the Wiim products may fit the bill for 2.1. And for the record, I own neither Wiim nor Denon/Marantz products.

To the OP: I am a strong proponent of the power of a good room correction suite, no matter what you choose.

but they do not have multiple HDMI input, which is a requirement for OT.
I was referring to the like of Marantz Stereo 70s, which is a cutback version of Marantz Cinema 70s (less channels, no room correction), yet price is quite the same :)

The Marantz is exactly giving me what I need + some. This whole reason for the thread was to confirm I was making the right choice and I've got exactly what I've wanted out of it. Since I'm not that deep in to the audio world and I've been on/watched this forum for years now, I thought it wouldn't harm to quickly ask my question before dropping some cash on a new setup :)

I don't want to run my HDMI through my TV or a switch, just a simple all in one solution that can power some nice speakers and does everything I want it to do.

That's fine, now that you're done with it, feel free to remain silent.

But very useful (to others) side discussion and conversations DO get spawned and may carry on for years without your needing to participate.

just how open public forum sites work...

No doubt, but if people still try to help me I do like to answer them ;)
