To whom it may concern, I recently searched for an optical to rca spdif converter with multiple inputs and found this cheap gizmo.
https://www.tindie.com/products/Beni_Skate/automatic-spdif-opticalrca-audio-switch/#product-name

Seems like an interesting product. Here's what it does:
  • Optical/SPDIF Audio Switch with automatic input detection (it will automatically switch to the input where a signal is coming - if there is a signal on 2 or more inputs the inputs are prioritized - it will always prefer input 1 before input 2 and so on)
  • 4 optical inputs and 3 SPDIF inputs (RCA plugs) or 7 optical inputs
  • Optical and/or SPDIF (RCA) outputs (SPDIF via RCA plugs optional also with output transformer)
  • Optical output will switch off if there is no signal on any input (so a receiver can switch on/off automatically based on the signal here)
  • Optional high quality Audio DAC (24Bit Sabre DAC - like some other DAC shields for the Raspberry Pi)

I have one of these:

Audio Authority 1177A (discontinued, though)

Optical or Coax in and out

Does 192kHz

Handles my TV, HDRadio, Oppo, and CD.

That looks really good and useful. It might pay for someone to do a basic check of the output using these with the basic J test. A couple of those converters for HDMI put out a coax and toslink signal with tons of jitter and clock issues even though other gear locks to it. I wouldn't be surprised if these devices at these prices didn't suffer similar problems. Though I don't know that they do either. And I have been able to confirm the problems weren't from the HDMI being input to them.
