As I understand the intensity of the fires is
a direct consequence of the green Khmer... any comments from Down Under?
My comment is that you understand it poorly and the claims are not based on evidence.
If you are not familiar with Australia you may not realise that your source link is known for opinionated polemics rather than unbiased analysis.
The article is prior to the current bush-fires and is not up to date.
A few more recent facts. All are from, and can be verified at, Australian mainstream news websites.
1. We have had fires in areas that have never been know to burn before, in rain forest.
This was clearly not because controlled burns had been prevented.
They had never been needed, or even contemplated.
2. A group of more than 20 senior members of various Fire Services has addressed the issue.
They all stated the recent problems were climate related, none of them said that "environmentalist" opposition to hazard reduction burns was a factor.
3. Australia has set new records in the maximum temperature of the country as a whole.
The increase was statistically remarkable, went up by ~1.5 K over a few days.
Finally, hazard reduction burns are difficult to balance risk and benefits, weather and science, but I have never seen even one documented case where one has been prevented by public "environmentalist" opposition.
AFAIK it's a completely phoney story to distract from the real issue.
Can you provide any evidence of this?
If not then perhaps you could do us the pleasure and remove your post.
We have had deaths, many people have lost homes, I can smell the smoke of the nearer fires even as I write- so it's a tender subject.
It's not helped by posts from people from outside the country who are not informed about the reality.
Best wishes
David
