As I understand the intensity of the fires is a direct consequence of the green Khmer... any comments from Down Under?

My comment is that you understand it poorly and the claims are not based on evidence.
If you are not familiar with Australia you may not realise that your source link is known for opinionated polemics rather than unbiased analysis.
The article is prior to the current bush-fires and is not up to date.
A few more recent facts. All are from, and can be verified at, Australian mainstream news websites.

1. We have had fires in areas that have never been know to burn before, in rain forest.
This was clearly not because controlled burns had been prevented.
They had never been needed, or even contemplated.

2. A group of more than 20 senior members of various Fire Services has addressed the issue.
They all stated the recent problems were climate related, none of them said that "environmentalist" opposition to hazard reduction burns was a factor.

3. Australia has set new records in the maximum temperature of the country as a whole.
The increase was statistically remarkable, went up by ~1.5 K over a few days.

Finally, hazard reduction burns are difficult to balance risk and benefits, weather and science, but I have never seen even one documented case where one has been prevented by public "environmentalist" opposition.
AFAIK it's a completely phoney story to distract from the real issue.
Can you provide any evidence of this?
If not then perhaps you could do us the pleasure and remove your post.
We have had deaths, many people have lost homes, I can smell the smoke of the nearer fires even as I write- so it's a tender subject.
It's not helped by posts from people from outside the country who are not informed about the reality.

Best wishes
David

The Khmer Rouge were known for not letting any rational argument stand in the way of their "ideals". Still, I apologize for politicizing that part of the discussion, it is not my intention to argue the vices and virtues of activists on this blog.

Yes, you are quite right here, I also observe there is very little middle ground left in politics - only swings to either extreme. The result is the worst of both worlds, in your Australian case leading to actual devastation.

The Conservative Khmer is filled with morons who voted the same grifter back in after he sold the Murray Basin water to his yacht mates.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-20/agriculture-department-stands-by-water-buybacks/11033530

The minister sold water contracts to his friends and the conservative voters (a lot of them being farmers) voted him back in after that deal and are now crying about the lack of water and the worst drought in Australia history.
Kinda hard to feel sorry for those who vote against themselves and are now being forced to sell their farms. Maybe a bit more "rationality" would have been in order for these folks.

Here,s an American example:

Losing the family farm to own the libs!! Maybe the should have been more "rational" in their vote for Trump but no, they refuse to learn as evidenced below.

I come from a very liberal, very socially conscious and charitable family and my Mom gave her entire life to charity and helping the poor and the down-trodden. We are the so called bleeding heart liberals but I am starting to lose empathy for self-defeating morons nowadays who will cut their nose off to spite someone else.

Note no Green Khmer were involved in the above.
