Audyssey's Next Generation of Room Correction (MultEQ-X)

Are you a current Denon/Marantz AVR Owner and if so what do you think of Audyssey's MultEQ-X?

  • I'm a current AVR owner. $200 price is acceptable. I've already purchased it.

  • I'm a current AVR owner. $200 price is acceptable. I’m willing to spend the money once I learn more.

  • I'm a current AVR owner. $200 price is too high. Anything lower is better.

  • I'm not a current Denon/Marantz AVR owner. $200 price is acceptable.

  • I'm not a current Denon/Marantz AVR owner. $200 price is too high. Anything lower lower is better.

  • I'm a current AVR owner. $200 price is acceptable, but I don't like the restrictive terms. Wont buy.

  • I'm not an owner. $200 price is acceptable, but I don't like the restrictive terms. Wont buy.

-Control over the EQ cut off frequencies to try 500hz cut off with my L+R speakers that have very good off axis control already
Does it allow EQ to a target below 500 Hz while still allowing individual PEQ custom adjustments at higher frequencies?

Did they add an option to turn off extra surround/height speaker boost of Dynamic EQ?
I still think OCA should take the plunge and become a Multeq-X user!

Note: latest version allows for the importation of target curves via text files

This sounds really good to me. I'm cutting my fronts (Revel M126BE) at 100. Anything obvious that I should still be addressing? I'm EQ-ing to 2000 to address a dip at 1.8. I should mention that I have two 1000w Rythmik subs bringing the low-end flat to under 20.

I have to say the latest 1.5 update has blown my mind! It is another world better with the 9db EQ limit now removed for the bass.

This latest update is what audessey should have always been!

It is more fiddly to get right vs DIRAC, but given dynamic EQ, it's now better than DIRAC for me.

How does it work for >9 dB boost for the other channels? I’d love to replace the Bose 901 equalizer with something like Audyssey. Dirac does a decent job, but misses out the very last bit of boost. The delta between 1 kHz and 10 kHz is 22 dB!

You can boost and cut effectively what you like on any channel. (Once you check the 'dont blame us if you blow a speaker' box.)

You know MiniDSP makes an EQ especially for the Bose 901 now.

Are the filters in MEQ additive? If I added a bass shelf, then added a tilt filter, would the tilt filter then lift the existing bass shelf on an axis?

Yes. I run a -0.5 per octave tilt then a 1dB shelf at 100Hz and another 1dB shelf at 50Hz to get my desired target.
Thank you. Does the order of the filters matter? I am using a -0.2 tilt and +3db shelf at 101 and crossing my subs at 100 and it sounds really good. Sounds like more bass than expected but still controlled. I did decide to use Auto for the subs at 20 and it sounds tighter. I tried importing the Harman Curve but didn't like the way it sounded nearly as much.

The order shouldn't matter because it's applying it to the target. The cumulative effect should be the same.

Voted "other" since it's not available for my computer (Mac) and I can't seem to buy it from the Microsoft store using my emulated Win 11 install

Thanks. I'm curious, do you let MEQ go full spectrum with the tilt or do you cut off at some point?
I go full range. My tilt generally tracks what my speakers are trending toward in my room on the high end, so I don't bother with a curtain.

The multiple shelves that I run are basically to account for where I want bass for music (the 100Hz shelf) and then a bit more low end for movies (the 50Hz shelf). I found that it gives me a nice balance that works great for both.

My system sounds the best ever with your settings. Thank you VERY much for sharing. I like how it still has energy at low volumes as well.

Upon further listening I think it's really good for TV and movies but I need to tone down the bass for music but this was a great experiment!

You can remove the shelf at 100Hz and see if that gives you what you're looking for. Alternately, change the tilt to -0.4 to balance it out.
