Audyssey Subwoofer calibration discrepancies between the receiver and the app

I have a Marantz SR6014 which has the ability to calibrate two subs independently. I have two Paradigm Defiance X12 subwoofers. I have downloaded the Audyssey app on my phone but for some reason it will only calibrate my subwoofers together instead of independently. Is there a way around this?

Did you add the second sub in the speaker menu?
I don't use the tablet app, I use a laptop but if I remember right on the first sweep you should hear a tone in one followed by a tone in the next. Does the tablet app then combine them on all other sweeps after the important first sweep. List to the first sweep, make sure you have 2 subs configured in the on screen menu.

Both subs are showing. From what I have been told is you need a Cinema Series or newer receiver for this to work. I am wondering if anyone has figured out a work around to this?

The owners manual shows two independent sub outs, that should be it, not sure why you are hitting single sub processing. Otherwise why have independent outputs if they treat them as a single. Factory reset time?

The problem is the app will not allow it. When I calibrate with just the receiver it calibrates the subs indepently

Something is wrong then, the app should be able to do it. Time for a reset and/or reinstall the app.

Oddly your model is not listed but if it works on board Im lost on the app.

But bellow it's listed on the laptop app thar is much better than the tablet app, worth the money in my book, many more options. Downside $200.00

S614 must be a typo as there is no such thing,, SR6014 is compatible for sure.

And interesting this is in the tablet list. S6014, shouldn't that be SR, are there S's and SR's, with out looking I'm guessing SR, the tablet software has good email support if the OP has not directly asked. I think we are back to a factory reset but would email them first.

100% sure it is SR, the SR5014 is listed, SR6013, 7013, even the 5012, 6012 are listed so SR6014 must be too, S6014 has to be just a typo.

Perhaps the confusion is in terminology. Audy should measure subs individually for supported models with two or more independent sub outputs, but then EQ'd as a group so you end up with one graph and curve for both subs. If you look at distance for each sub, it might/likely will be different, and same for volume as well.

Not sure how app treats newer models with 4 subs as using PC app MultiEQ-X. These models have directional bass where you can actually calibrate and EQ each sub separately so you end up with different graphs for each - at least with MultiEQ-X. That is likely a mute point in this case as this AVR would not support directional bass anyway.

Not sure how receiver calibration works as those were elder days before the D&M app.

The SR6014 can indeed calibrate two subs independently, but only if you run Audyssey directly from the receiver. The MultEQ Editor app groups subs as one that’s just how the app works, it won’t treat them separately.

If you want true independent calibration, stick with the AVR’s built-in setup. You can then use the app afterward for curve editing, crossover tweaks, etc. For even more control (delay, EQ, phase per sub), many people add a miniDSP in the chain before Audyssey.

That is partly true, but not quite correct..

For clarity, both the MultEQ Editor App and the AVR itself will do the same thing as follow, when used with two subwoofer outputs:

It will send a test tone to subwoofer 1, and then subwoofer 2, and in each case it would prompt you to increase, decrease, or no change to the subwoofer volume control.

That way, Audyssey could, and would level match and time align the two subs (in the case of the SR6014 that has two independent subouts).

Calibration will continue, if you are using the App, at the end, when you send the file to the AVR, it will do the EQ/correction. The end results would be:

1) The two subwoofer will get level matched, and time aligned.
2) The two subwoofers will be EQ'ed/room corrected as one (that part you are correct), though if you use 3rd party software or maybe the $200 PC based app (not 100% sure about that part/option), you may be able to EQ/Correct the two subouts independently.

As Oddball mentioned, there will be just one target curve for the subwoofers, because the two will be EQ'ed/Corrected as one, but if you look at the level trims and distance of each, they will likely be different because of 1) above.

Again, in that regard as described above, whether you do it with the App, or directly via the AVR, the process is the same.
