Audiotronix is a UK holding company with mixing console holdings DigiCo - live concert sound, Calrec - live TV and Broadway, SSL, Alan and Heath, and Harrison - recording studio and mid-budget, Sound Devices - portable film sound, JH & Klang - IEMs, Slate modeling microphones, and a slew of DSP/plugin products.

DPA & Schoeps are the premier small diaphragm microphones for classical recording. DPA is a Danish company, bought by an Italian company, then flipped to Audiotronix. DPA has been doing cost reduction by not offering repairs, it's hard to throw away a $3000 microphone - forcing new sales, while Schoeps has legendary repair services. DPA and Schoeps have different sounds as well. DPA has the best lavalier microphones, have introduced cost reduced 20xx series, they are making inroads in on-the-instrument microphones, and compete with Schoeps for shotgun microphones.

Once AKG was bought, several companies were created by their former staff, including Austrian Audio. Meanwhile AKG released their own cost reduced C114 & C151 inspired by the C414 and C451.
