Audio First Fidelia on Erin’s Audio Corner

The interesting-looking driver layout is actually nothing new; you might have seen something similar in the past.
Yeah. This is at least 6 years old.
It does nothing below 100 Hz and is designed to work with subwoofers.
2x10" pro in a minimal sealed box, on top there is SEOS24 with dcx464 now. Cross about 600 Hz.
Sorry for the photo in the dark:

8channel digital active stereo system. To be precise - 2.1.-0.6. Negative attenuated channel for rear DBA subwoofers. Sats are 3 bands 2 ways))

I would have expected the dual woofer design to have some lobing but it looks like they don't? Kinda neat, got any info on why that is?

I can hit 94dB and keep the F6 just under 30Hz if I use two 12-inch and make the cabinet bigger (around 150L - 160L)
Sounds good! I bet it could hit some pretty serious peak SPLs too.
Maybe if you have enough time you could share some basic 3D renders and see what people here think of the aesthetics/proportions.

Those are small (5-inch) woofers, and I placed them very close to each other so the lobing happens above 1k Hz, see normalised horizontal polar of the woofer section below:

Most of the horizontal layout woofers you see in the market are on MTM center channels and they are spaced quite far apart, so the narrowing / lobing will start much lower in frequency.

Hello Everyone.

I'm Nattaphoom from Thailand. I 'm following all the discussion and post in this topic and very interesting and showing that objective measurement can become a factor to help consumer make decision to buy a pair of speaker much easier and sometime.... It's blind purchase like Me.

After that I've placed the order for Fidelia shipped straight forward to Bangkok THailand. With help of Harry. he is supportive to mywork and serve all required data and his comment is educate me step by step. Appreciate for that Harry.

Then After taking a month. Just have time to finalize the paint high gross veneer finished. and having a listening to it.

For subjective listening.
Audio First Fidelia.

My Impression.

-> give good 3dimensional , more wide open soundstage.

-> Dynamic and punchy is more than enough for me even 5" woofer. (I do listenning mostly POP, Acoustic)

-> I'm able to place speaker even far from each other. 2.2meter and I'm sitting at 2.5m away from speaker. It really really give wide soundstage. while Focus is still acceptable.

-> High Excellent no sibilant for me. Detail and punchy.....

Low light

-> VOCAL single was step backward push far away than my personal taste. Normally I love Vocal focus push forward a little bit than the band.

-> on some track HIgh few a bit bright and keep resonance. some timber bell keep remaining in the background of the track. which normally I'ven't noticed it with other speaker. (Setup toe out may help?)

This Fidelia is broaden me on DIY world.. improve me a wood work + veneering + urethane painting. Last but not least It sound really good.

here is some wood work and cosmetic work in my house..

Beautiful, increadibly beautiful woodwork!!!! Never see something like this before!

If you have the option for a tiny little bit of parametric equalizing, look at the spinorama data:

TypeFreqQGain
AutomaticEQ (IIR)
Set preamp gain to: -2.8dB
PK36.0 1.07 2.99
PK98.01.21-1.45
PK211.00.68-0.8
PK621.02.97-0.88
PK1244.0 2.98-0.73
PK1823.02.86-0.73

So after these tiny, tiny, tiny corrections, it maybe sound a bit less bright.

Hi Totti,

Thank you for the comment. I will try to apply PEQ IIR and see. Do you also used FIdelia?

Hello everyone, I want to provide a little more update on the Cadentia project as I haven't talk about it for quite a while now.

In the past few months, I was being rather stubborn in trying to produce the front baffle in one whole piece (with the HF & MF waveguide section) just for aesthetic reasons. After going back and forth with a few suppliers/manufacturers, I came to the conclusion that this will make the product unnecessarily expensive. I always want the price of my product to be reasonable (Let's put it that way - something I can afford as a customer) and not go toward the crazy high-end madness. So I settled with the original design which the HF & MF section will be made separately. This caused a lot of delay for the project, and I want to thank everyone who is waiting patiently.

I am now waiting for the first pair of cabinet samples (walnut finish) to arrive. The factory sent me some photos which I would like to share with you here:

Sample_cabinet_A.jpg

Sample_cabinet_B.jpg

You can see there is a removable rear panel. As I mentioned before, there will be an active version (using the Hypex FusionAmp FA123) available soon after the passive version. The rear panel design will allow me to produce both versions easily, and the user can potentially upgrade/change things by themself with ease too. The bass reflex port will be on the rear panel, as the one in the active version has a different length.

If I am happy with the sample cabinets, the production will go ahead. I am only making 25 pairs in the first batch (I simply don't have the kind of cash flow to produce a bigger batch. The drivers are all very expensive, etc). 3 pairs have been reserved for some very keen customers and a retailer. If the sale goes well, I can carry on the production work also on other models (centre channel & surround) with the funds.

I visited Purite Audio in London yesterday and had a lovely conversation with Keith. I demoed the Cadentia prototype (the ugly MDF one!) to him, and he immediately decided to get a pair and will be demoing in his place in North London once available.

I really hope to launch the product before the end of this year, and again I thank you for all your support and patience.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

this looks good

Have you tried renders with the front plate covering the entire front or even a little further? IMHO, it would look a little bit more put together. The enclosure extending past the front plate looks a bit like an 80s retro design. Unless that's what you're going for.

Just to add, the prototype pair of Cadentia that Harry bought around just WOW! and the projected price point double WOW.
Simply stunning.
Keith

I like how the black baffle is set on the front of the box, it looks really cool. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the checker board midrange that I saw used on the prototype tho.
