They look neat enough to be worth it. Although I guess that's going to be $30-50aud of fuel

You have previously written that you are thinking about buying some speakers and fixing them up, freshening them up. A little DIY light if I understood correctly. Why not buy some more well-known brands/models and fix them up? Here is a tip, maybe it can give some inspiration:
I am now in the apartment in the city so I can't do much, BUT I bought a pair of Audio Pro Black Diamond. I got them at a really good (low) used price because they had a scratch on the top of one of them.

I have played with them. They sound good and Audio Pro is good at bass. With downfiring port, it is,considering the size of the woffer and box, as good bass as you can hope for. I don't need a sub with them for my small living room. :)

They measure well in my room. Just as nice/straight, as my Wharfedale Diamond 220 (a model which Amir measured).
The bass difference is like night and day in Audio Pro's favor, though. ;)

Okay. Here is the scratch and the first paint.

Needs a few coats.
Edit:
First painting. Needs one more coat then it will be good. Can't see the scratch then. :)
I had to sand with wet sandpaper before painting.

I sawed at the lumber yard from what I found in the scrap pile into two base plates that I will place them on. They also require a few coats of paint. Here is the first coat.

For free? Go for it! Not much we can tell from photos except that whoever built them seems to have done so with some care and attention.

I've used Audax drive units in the very distant past and they were good.

It looks like they are solid boxes. That bass woofer, if it is in good condition and if the port is tuned well, they could have potential. Dual tweeters though, hm. Better with one (new maybe). Could actually be a nice DIY project, as TS has thought about with his concrete Runa speakers. Then it is practically easier to work with these. :)

Having said that, just popping in a new tweeter, even if it's good, isn't that easy. It should fit the crossover, the right Ohm. Plus it should have the right sensitivity for the purpose.

Variants of that tweeter have been around since at least the early '80s - see the original Wharfedale Diamond. I've seen square, round and rectangular bezel versions. Current ones would be TW010E1 and TW010F1 for square and round respectively, and AW versions for shielded. They're ferrofluid cooled, so depending on age they may have deteriorated.

Maybe replace them?
They seem pretty good. Low price. Here are FR and distortion measurements on them, with the conclusion:

My thoughts

Having done the necessary measurements, I’m rather impressed with this Audax TW010E1. I see a lot of potential with this tweeter, in particular for use with budget speaker designs. The flat frequency response with a single capacitor is definitely a huge plus. As for the ringing, I’m not too concerned. I will know for sure whether it’s a problem when I start testing it with music but I’m confident it’ll sound fine.

For $5.90, it can’t get better than this. Outstanding value for money.

A little more expensive in Europe, but not much more:
TLHP selling price
19.96IT/piece
In that case, I would have asked TLHP how old they are. So they are not NOS tweeters. The ferrofluid may have dried out in them.

It looks like Audax changed hands a year or two back. They're supposed to be restarting production of some models, but it's not clear which ones or when. That makes everything New Old Stock to some degree.

The popular soft dome they made in the late 70s - early 80s seems to be available and the large dome that some monitors had, also seems to be re-made and possibly with smoother response today from searches I did a good while back admittedly. That little tweeter was used in a heck of a lot of models to varying degrees of success, as long as the crossover isn't taken too low in frequency.
