Do they, where are they?

I would get to believe they got their fame as cold because of their usual lean, tight bass of the smaller models (in combination with everything else) along with amps that work constantly at their clipping points with such a low sensitivity.
At least their midbass is decent and that's more important than the sub-bass (which they don't reach)
"amps", not "their amps"."constantly at their clipping" - are you kidding? You will run out of room before their protection kicks in. Do not forget - they use a separate amplifier for each driver.
As for the bass - nothing can replace several 18 - 24" subwoofers. If you want to come close within same box, you will need 4 way design.

ATC model numbers are the enclosure volume in litres, so the SCM150 has a 3 times bigger volume cabinet.Wow I never imagined the size difference was so big
If you could just point out where the ‘clip lights’ are? It’s in the manual…

SMC25A Pro Mk2 I believe? The green light in the ATC logo is the power-on indicator. When the limiter kicks in, that light will turn red.

Actually, she travels a lot (months at a time), so I would not want to keep her here all the time. It gives us a break & it's like a Honeymoon when she gets back (except for that damn "Honey Do" list). You mean a dedicated room for the spouse, right![]()
I have 6 duplicate 2 channel amps that can put out just over 500 watts RMS a channel (or 900+ watts RMS bridged mono) when in a 4 ohm configuration, so power & sensitivity are non-issues.So personally I'm no loyalist to any brand. I'd encourage you to give the big 3 ways a listen at some point, just to see if you like them. That said, the 3 ways bigger than the scm40 are very large indeed. The SCM50s are a hair larger than KH420s, which by no means are small speakers.
ATCs are fine, generally voiced a little warm if anything. Probably closer to a Revel than a Genelec, all things considered.
I think the passives are a mistake, they need a lot of amp (the sensitivity is generally 85dB or lower) and the actives have a bit better integration. Unfortunately their amp packs are power suckers (high idling AB) so they probably should be turned off when you aren't using them.
I really like your back yard. The huge trees make it neato with character and the solitude and privacy are great. I live in the downtown of a city of a million people on the 8th floor now and lived in city houses for decades and before I came from the country adjacent to the huge ~70 foot deep deep and fast Columbia River in a very private setting with a very mild winter climate that enabled sensitive fruit trees like cherries, peaches and apricots to grow large and flourish. I have adjusted to the inner big city living but am fed up with the druggies, the freaky people that want to push others down, the persistent deafening sirens of fire trucks of which 84% are said to be racing to drug overdoses from fentanyl, the constant in my face omnipresent traffic of the seemingly hundreds of very mentally ill people hanging around the city core where the food sources are available, the homeless shelters and non judgmental illegal street drugs use clinics are located as they ply the same approach over and over in a non productive effort to solving the same issues for the recent decades. With no health care and no homes as the mental health care hospitals all closed the doors and where mothballed in the late 80s to early 90s and sit there vacant and unused and have become equity assets that must be maintained the mentally ill have become feral humans at the fringe of society while in our faces and obviously there but people pretend very well and carry on now as if nothing is out of the ordinary. The ease of access to services and ability to purchase stuff within easy reach from home is nice for me and yes I have grown calloused to all the stuff that bothers me in the inner city. But yeah... back to the ATC speakers... LoL. I am considering small speakers for my new big screen 4K TV and see that a neighbor has bookshelf JBL active speakers that we all know and love due to Amirm's review of them and he never gets noise complaints and surprisingly has them fairly loud sometimes. But I have a 16" stand mounted fan that is noisy hence the want of better sound and think that no speaker will be good with a noisy fan polluting the sound and need Bluetooth earbuds so I don't have the sweaty issue with headphones and the hair messing fit of headphones too. But yeah new ATC speakers would be a a huge pleasure with a new compact class D head unit with network access, media player capability and remote control with fiber optic input. Here is what new ATC speakers cost where I live. They are mucho dear.I have 6 duplicate 2 channel amps that can put out just over 500 watts RMS a channel (or 900+ watts RMS bridged mono) when in a 4 ohm configuration, so power & sensitivity are non-issues.
I do happen to like 3 ways better & do not understand the 2 way push (yes, some are quite good but there are only a few that I would say do not NEED a real woofer [& still, usually, also a pair of subwoofers {just to be able to balance the room out}. So, with most 2 [& 2.5]) speakers, you will most likely need a subwoofer (crossing over to that ends up making it a 3 or 3.5 way. Yes, I understand the advantage of separate subs & their placement advantages, but you can add them to a 3 way as needed, also.
The SCM40 would be pushing it in my current home. Hopefully, in the next 2 years, I can get back to my previous home, where even something as large as Klipschorn (not that I would consider that) could be made to blend in (in the corners, as they are made to be). That would open up a lot of options. But, I do not see that happening within the next year to 2 years.
But, as things are going now, I have hope that it will happen, eventually, which is a step up from "never going to happen".
The back yard of the previous & hopefully again, in the future, home. Until then, I am happy with what I have here (which also worked well there [a pair of large 2 ways FR: 26 Hz- 20 KHz +-2 dB] and a pair of modest size passive subs that get me down to 20 Hz {not particularly loud, but it's there}). Thanks (a once & future back yard), I hope. In the front, the city limits is at the centerline of the street but this place is on the correct side of the street (non-City). And the city can't build behind this place.I really like your back yard. The huge trees make it neato with character and the solitude and privacy are great. Indeed, and the distortion is really pretty impressive. There's not really too much you can do about the soft dome beaming other than use a hard dome. Or put it in a CD horn/waveguide, I guess. If we ignore the soft dome beaming, they measure pretty good actually.
