I can't seem to find a review here, only posts that seem to hold these in high regard. I've been wanting to try some Genelecs for some time. I fell into a new pair for $630 total...bought each separately via Marketplace/Craigslist without shipping nor tax so I *think* that's almost 50% off?

I can't seem to find a proper review so if anyone has a link, that would be great.

Thank you. Does anyone know what the difference is between the other letters and D?

Wow that's really helpful. What do the letters themselves actually mean, a, b, c, d besides revisions. Are they basically like batches or are there Sonic changes and evolutions and improvements.

I don’t believe the letters mean anything specific other than indicating a revision, sort of like a model year designation. So a design change, not just a production run. Version A, Version B, and so on.

So we don't know what these design changes are and whether they change the Sonic signature in any way from letter to letter? Is it more like certain internal parts may have gotten hard to find and they substitute certain internal parts and so enough of those happen and they call it a new version? I think I'll email Genelec I can ask them that question.

Let us know what you find out. In perusing the Genelec forums in the past I got the impression it can be anything from minor to fairly major changes.

From Genelec:

"The 8020D is the most current version of the 8020 speaker. Each version improves on the previous model. The 8020D is capable of reaching higher SPL levels than its previous versions. It is also more efficient and has lower energy consumption. The 8020D also implemented an additional 'Desktop 200 Hz' switch which is designed to help with the frequency boost that occurs when the monitors are placed on a desk or a similar reflective surface.

Additionally, the previous versions of the 8020 needed an external step-up or step-down converter to be used in different regions. The 8020D does not require any external conversion if moved to a region with different voltage.

Overall, there are several improvements that are made with each new version of our speakers. I have attached links to the operating manuals for the 8020D and the 8020C if you would like to take a closer look at those.

I hope this helps answer your question! Please reach out if you have any more questions or concerns. I hope you enjoy your new 8020D's!"
