Does more to put me to sleep
Is that not what it's used for by the people who respond to it? The small number of people I know who like it use it to get to sleep, or that's what they claim, the first time it was explained to me she was very insistent about that being what she used it for, and it was in no way porn, that point was made repeatedly.

In other words, it's porn.

Some properly done ASMR does produce the tingling sensation but most are crap.

I do like those video of walking around and sound recorded with binaural mics. Such as this video. Around 28 to 30 minutes mark the sound of thunder, people talking, and music playing makes it feel like I'm actually there.

Some quick examples. The first one is TWO HOURS, of someone brushing the foam cover of a couple microphones with a couple different types of brushes. I swear, I think more people are retarded than I ever realized until some things I see on the internet with a prime example being ASMR.

I prefer the old fashioned way, she whispers in your ear , you do some heavy breathing to a stranger down the telephone

A plate on a plain table. slide the plate across the table. Not fast. Then someone on the other side of the table slides the plate back. There is a slight grit or a bit of sand on the table. It is that.

Just an odd new thing. People that swear by it, remind me of my cousin who says he can't sleep without the radio music station on. I on the other hand would prefer total silence and darkness (unless I'm actually tired than I don't really care whatever's going on).

As for the people that enjoy this stuff? Well it's just like any other preference a person may have. Nothing weird, just -a thing- for people in the same way you could find someone who likes doing things you never thought someone would like.

Personally? It's just annoying when sensitivity is as high as it is on those videos, any slight dB raise or fall is mega jarring. It's the same kind of annoying as if you upped the volume on someone making sounds while they have a flu or something. Imagine throat-clearing, teeth sucking, teeth clacking, nail biting, grumbling, swallowing. Etc..

I don't wanna hear it basically. I feel it's almost a waste considering the higher end binuaral mics used in some recordings could possibly be set up outside somewhere in nature. I'd rather get lost with those sounds than the sound of someones vocal cords expelling flem, or annoying Styrofoam being rubbed up on, as if a kid would when bored with no toys to play with..

If you're going to listen to a keyboard, it should be one with stainless steel buckling springs. They're noisy, but they have excellent typing feel. Once you type on one of these, it's hard to be satisfied with anything else. The newer mechanical switches from companies like Cherry are better than bubble domes, but they pale in comparison to the buckling spring.

Freakin' love it. ASMR is something that really helps me to relax after a hard day of work. The thing is, I really get "attached" to an artist when I first start listening to one, and I recently ran out. I did some googling and found this nice statistic about top ASMR artists . It seems like this site has compiled the most popular ones; I found a couple of new interesting artists. There's some cool other stuff there as well; hope you can find some new nice artists on that site.

I like this type of thing atmospheric rain and thunder. Found this one recently and there's moments when I'm kinda at the park.
Edit I think it's better loud on speakers than headphones.

Big fan.
As far as emotional response. Audio of reading a newspaper, no talking. Just the pages turning as they should. I think it reminds me being at my grandparents and I would nod off and grandpa would read the paper. Kind of like Ratatouille.

As far as relaxing there can be no talking or whispers, creeps me out. Ambient weather, or weird stuff like someone applying spackle or sweeping. There is a something chill about the rhythms and the sounds. Knocks me out at night.

Bob Ross is the one I can stand talking. His relaxed tone and the painting and scraping sounds. This stuff settles me in for the night.

Shameless plug

It's one thing listening to tracks made by fans, but it was a big surprise finding a tier 1 seiyuu. Also more professionally recorded compared to fan stuff i.e. no clipping, good mic, consistent levels, and the seiyuu has good mic control, well, obviously.

Ironically I couldn't care less about the sounds, I'm just here for the voice and to learn Japanese, so I prefer no-SE versions and those that come with the script.

There are ones which are awful and ones that are just okay. But one really should not go out of their way to look for these actively. Why would you? But the few that I listened to have narrators talking about interesting things... where I eventually just fall asleep — almost like Bob Ross painting a canvas... Not exactly so stimulating to arouse a person!

Not quite representative though of the ‘genre’ as a whole — if you could call it that.

There is good asmr and there is bad asmr. I use it to relax from getting wound up, before bed just to slow my mind down. Works great for that.

I guess if we still lived in and around nature there would be natural sounds that would be ASMR, leaves blowing, crickets(I hate those loud things), Running water, etc.
