I'm a big fan of Ken Ishii. Japanese DJ and record producer. But he's the same age as me. There are so many others.
I don't really care about what "race" or "sexual orientation" people are as long as I like the music. This is totally subjective of course.
Race is a social construct anyway. The concept has no basis in science. DNA reveals what skin color obscures: We all have African ancestors.
Akmu performing on KBS's You Heeyeol’s Sketchbook in July 2021. Both videos are from the same live performance. Volume is louder on the first one though, probably due to some dynamic range compression.
Was thinkin about this overnight. And I will make one other request on the posts here. And that is to try to keep content which contains graphic violence or overt political content to a dull roar. And to also try to give the other members here a little heads-up if/when you're posting content like this. And to just generally try to be sensitive to the messages that you could be sending others through this kind of material.
I also enjoy some artists who can sometimes post content which is on the darker, or more gothicy, or occasionally on the violent side. So I will do my best to also heed my own advice on this in the future as well.
You did say 'whatever floats yer boat', well this album nearly flips my ship I'll link to the soundcloud post, otherwise you can easily find it on beatport.com. I don't think all album artists are asian but nevertheless..
I am surprised that no one has mentioned Teresa Teng. She probably sold more records than anyone from her era. Contemporary pop, sort of like Karen Carpenter's stuff, in a way. Not unlike Karen, she died relatively young.
I'll contribute one, he is quite famous in Taiwan. His singer name is Wu Bai, band name is China blue. His wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Bai He make his own songs and sing his own songs, he also makes songs for other singers too. His songs are very weird, some people don't like his songs because of the weirdness....... If you search his name or band China Blue on youtube you will be able to listen to his songs. Here are some of his songs:
Embarrassed to say that whilst I have a decent sized collection, it's decidedly US /British in makeup (I can't even say western as there is very little European stuff there either). But encountered this on pitchfork and added it .
I'll keep eyes and ears on this thread to see if anything floats my boat.
