AsciLab speakers are about to launch

Don't bother, it's all about vibes and inconsistent nitpicking with those predisposed towards magical worship of British cottage industry boxes like ATC. Even when literal math and geometry says otherwise. Some people don't say a peep about crappy vertical dispersion when their favourite antique boxes do dismally, and yet make a fuss about it for speakers from an upstart brand with as good vertical dispersion as it get outside of coaxials

No. I have on this forum both been questioning a demo of ATC speakers using speaker stands putting the speaker’s acoustic center at different heights (can’t find the picture). And also questioned why Revel speakers have their acoustic center (the tweeter) at different heights, as can be seen in the picture below.

I find this strange, because I’m pretty sure all these manufacturers are carefully measuring their speaker at the height of the acoustic center, so why aren’t some of them designing their speaker to place that point at the same ear level?

Personally, at least as far as AsciLab 8" cardioid bass module goes, I'd just buy a different chair with the $ saved vs. the competition (W371, BXT, possibly the mythical D&D 12C)

If you're really cheap (I'm quite guilty myself), depending on your torso length you could just fix your posture compared to this fellow:

Some people are taller than others.

If I had to guess, I think the assumption would be that the larger models are going to be used in larger rooms with the listening position farther away. As long as the vertical dispersion isn't too narrow, which it's not based on looking at the measurements, then having the tweeter up higher shouldn't be an issue as long as you aren't too close.

Not asking this In a negative way
But why are these speakers so hyped?
What's special about them?

Exceptional, no compromise engineering at an extremely competitive price, plus responsive and communicative team of engineers.

That's a never before seen combination which rightly gets people excited.

It feels like Asci "cracked the code" of making loudspeakers :)

Using more or less standard components that all other manufacturers would have at their disposal too. Nothing exotic just engineering excellence.

Also openly providing the most complete measurement sets for all their models including multitone distortion and compression (similar to the EAC reviews).
Would slightly disagree though on the "no compromise" as everything in engineering is one, I would rather say a damn good compromise for typical in real life practice.

Has anyone else in the U.S. had their speakers held up in customs?

Mine was held on a clearance delay due to needing a tariff number. I contacted Ascilab and they swiftly gave me the tariff number (8518.22 for those who may need it).

I gave FedEx the tariff number 4 days ago, but no movement. I can be patient, just wondering if anyone else ran into this and found a different solution?

The woofers in the revel be speakers are not made by sb acoustics. Only the old black woofers were.
Oh really? I was under the impression that they were the same for years, but more recently switched to a different manufacturer making essentially the same driver.

They’re an engineering marvel. Getting this good of directivity in a 2 way is basically unheard of. Their transparency is almost unmatched. Incredible directivity, incredible linearity, wide dispersion, all at about $1k. There are still compromises, as always, but what they’re doing is really something special, hence the attention.

Sorry mate. I did not have this happen to me. They arrived in like 5 days. Hope you get sorted out asap.

What are the compromises?

Distortion and compression. This is also what you gain back by going with the purifi loaded model than the ceramic.
But imho its a really small compromis at the pricepoint (C6b). HD Values are still ok'isch, maybe some Speaker do a little better (Kef Q Concerto or Elac DB62 as example) but the Multitone D from the C6B is equal good or little better. (The Kef and the Elac do worse at linearity and smooth directivity, thats the compromise)
If someone want to Play the C6b at 96 or 102db they should use a Subwoofer or different speaker, the A6B would be a Upgrade for that. By the way AsciLab will offering a Purifi Bookshelve Speaker at the most affordable price on the marked, i think! Except DIY of course.
