AsciLab speakers are about to launch

They really do look great there. They should put that picture on their site.

We're back in business boys! A HF resistor got knocked loose. Got it soldered back on.

great to get a look at the c6b crossover! metallized polypropylene capacitors(film caps) and air core inductors everywhere :D
The air coil responsible for the woofer uses 14 AWG copper wire, while the one for the tweeter uses 18 AWG copper wire. Thank you for evaluating the quality of the internal components.

@Matt34 I really like they are in matt black. Same for white. It somehow works very well in stead of glossy paint.

I noticed a similar effect regarding anodised aluminium vs glossy chrome. Matt just works better in interiors imo.

Well dang, I got them hooked up and started with some Fink "trouble's what you're in" and immediately noticed something was off. The left speaker's tweeter was not working. I swapped L/R to isolate it to the speaker and not my equipment. Going to contact Ascilab and see how they want to proceed.

Edit: it's the speaker without the tiny indention that is faulty.

I like the view so much. They look very fit to your space.
How was your first impression?

Got them today and tested VS some other speakers I have. The C6B won rather noticeable.
The C6B has more clear and direct Vocals and Instruments while sounding more "right". Standing a lot above them They still sound surprisingly similar and good (even though I knew vertical dispersion is great).

I don't listen that loud and they do well in one half of a 40sqm room. The are fired by a Set of Topping B200.

You appear to have a couple of quite ample subwoofers!

I've been trying to order the C6B throughout the past day, but when I checkout through PayPal, it's telling me AscilLab doesn't ship to my location in California? Are we still able to purchase here in the states?

I had the same issue. Just ordered mine last week. You have to go to the regular checkout first and make an account/login, then add your address. Afterwards, add them to your cart while logged in and then go to PayPal and you’ll be golden.

Arrived to US with no issues, well packed, unboxing was painless with a nice attention to detail.
My office is being renovated so their not in their home yet, but propped them up on some cardboard boxes to test out because who could resist!?
Straight up phenomenal for their size, I've never heard a bookshelf so well controlled at normal SPL at any price, really as good as they say
Thank you @AsciLab !

Thank you @AsciLab !
Well with that second picture you must certainly let us know how they compare to those Revel F226Be you have there.

C6B showed up today. Super fast shipping, my amp won’t be here for another 3-4 weeks. Couple dings on the box which presumably lead to a couple chips on one speaker. Def going to want to up their box game if they want to avoid issues. Looking forward to trying them out!

Thank you for letting us know about the issue.
We will work on improving the packaging to make it more secure and prevent this kind of problem in the future.
As for the speaker with the chip damage, our customer service team will reach out to you separately to follow up.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

After testing a bit more (still only a few hours in) I want to give a more balanced review.

On the picture below there are the C6B next to self made active driven closed Speakers with Waveguide and a 8,5" Scan Speak Woofer with Tweeter in big (less optimized) Waveguide.

My active speaker is more "sweet", fresh and less harsh. The C6B still sounds more realistic. The room is rather reflective and not too good sounding so there is a benefit of the more narrow radiation of the self made speakers.

My wife prefers the sound signature of other speakers more because C6B can sound harsher as there is no recession in midrange in power response. If I or the speakers are more away from the walls the midrange is even too prominent for me on C6B. Adding to that WAF is only medium (but I assume the modern Grey gloss could have fared better in this regard)

If I could only keep one speaker it would still be the C6B but I can understand that it will not be everyone's favorite in every case. That is even more true if EQ and Subwoofers are not at hand to help with room problems or preferences.
But again many other speakers in C6B price range and above sounded just plain worse.

I am even more excited to try them myself.

Regarding sound signature, imo and ime, I noticed it's something to get used to when there is less distortion and the sound very focussed.

Personally, I view good measuring speakers as a starting point which I may want to adjust with eq. For instance my personal preference is for somewhat rolled of highs and a frequency slope that is more steep than most around here would prefer. Ymmv

I am very interested in your situation, as I am really wanting a neutral speaker with minimal harshness.

I assume your diy crossing to an 8in woofer will have a sound power dip. If you have a measurement mic, can you post some room response measurements to compare them?

Been listening today via Tidal on a Wiim Pro Plus to a Denon x3800h, no subs, no DSP. They remind me of my Revel M106 to some extent, better bass extension (I still believe you'll want a subs.) As Erin mentioned in his review, compared to the Kef Q7 I had, the high end is more prominent and I like female vocals better.
We watched a couple shows last night, an episode of 1923 and Murder Bot. Dialogue is very good, even at low levels (-32db below reference) powered off a Denon x3800h intelligibility was solid. Running in a 4.1 setup, imaging (phantom center) was spot on. Need to get the subs locked in, but waiting on an IOM Ncore amp to show up before calibrating everything.

These are pretty remarkable, especially for the price. I wish I still had the Ascend Acoustics LX as I think those would be the only speakers under $2k that I've had that I might prefer over these.

Disregard all the Nintendo Switch 2 nonsense, kids have been having fun!

For context, I'm pushing 50 with 20 years in the military and known HF loss in one ear and varying degrees of tinnitus in both.
