AsciLab speakers are about to launch

I would love an active c5b or smaller for casual pc listening :)
Would likely require bespoke electronics to be cost- and size-effective, which AFAIK is outside Ascilab's capabilities for now.

For actives, Ascilab have relied on Hypex plate amps so far, and the most economical of those still cost 900€ per pair retail and is 32cm tall.

Built into a speaker, you can then expect a minimum height of 35cm and minimum price of 1500€, before you even add cabinets or drivers.

"To reduce the effect of rear-wall reflections, it is also recommended to position the
speakers so that the front baffle is within 80 cm of the wall behind them"

Does it mean the distance between front wall and the back of the speaker is supposed to be depth(speaker enclosure)+distance <= 80 cm? And minimum would be?

Platin also makes a Fusion Amp-like solution in a very compact package, it's more cubic but should fit into most of Ascilab's speakers in terms of volume with only slight modifications. The modules are the PRX and PRXII.

That's what Buchardt, Mesanovic, System Audio and Econik use.

if you're dumb then so I am because I wondered the same...it's the distance from front baffle to the wall behind the speaker, inferior or equal to 80cm

sorry now I am not sure what you're asking? I simply made sure that the distance between the front baffle and the front wall was less than 80cm. I don't think we need to over-engineer it ;)

So they could also have said 45cm from the back of the speaker, whichever you prefer.
And you can go as close as you want, I believe the goal is to keep SBIR-issures within the cardoid range.

It means, like most/all speakers, there is a sweet spot. And in this case, they are recommending no more than 80 cm from the front of the speaker to the wall. It is similar to the recommendation from Genelec:

It's hard to say what the minimum would be exactly, but it's usually pretty close to the wall.

Not more than 45cm from the front wall and the back of the speaker. Got it now :-)
 
I just bought a pair of C6b's. I'm curious what people are using to power them.
I'm using a Topping LA90D as a power amp, and a Pre90 as preamp.

The C6Bs aren't meant to go too loud anyway, and I think the LA90D would drive them into distortion before giving up itself. I've not had any problems with the speakers low impedance either, which is often reported as making them hard to drive. (I'm not sure how a problem would manifest itself, but speakers are fine, and amp has never shut down, or even got above being slightly warm.)
 
What is your take on the sound differences comparing the active C8C to the passive S6B?
It is best to refer to measurement data.
The following is a subjective evaluation, so please use it for reference only.

In terms of high-frequency detail, the S6B performs better, while the C8C offers greater depth and dynamics in the low frequency range.
