AsciLab speakers are about to launch

Hello everyone,

I wanted to respond here immediately to the many questions and concerns. However, in order to avoid the mistake of replying based on incorrect information, I carefully reviewed all emails from the beginning — not only those exchanged with Amir and our International Sales Manager, but also all correspondence with other dealers. I then shared the confirmed details with Amir, and this matter will be resolved properly.Thank you for your trust in Amir and in us.

Best regards,

Changyeul Park CEO, AsciLab

Probably nothing, I suspect what is going on here is the result of AsciLab finding the value proposition of fulfilling other orders more beneficial than the ten units sold through Amir. It's bad business practice for sure, but I suspect it'll change nothing if people want to buy from them direct rather than go through a forum operator. They're a Korean company scaling to meet demand out of their domestic market, they can ultimately just retreat back into that market at will.

If they fail to deliver ANYTHING on a global scale then sure the issues are more grave, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Fortunately I think most spaces consider affiliate farmer reviewers a joke, so it's pretty telegraphed what you're getting into if you're taking advice from dudes like Josh Valour or Passion For Sound.
I see you avoided the link between Ratner and AsciLab after trying to to be a smart arse and insulting me. But please carry on.

OK, I woke up this morning (I get up late :) ), to a very nice email and resolution of the immediate issues from company CEOs. I will leave out the details for now, just in case they want to announce it. But it is all behind us and we are on track to get more product.

Thank you for all of you who supported us/me. For those of you who didn't, may you not find good music to listen to for the next week! :D
I was slowly trying to read up on whatever was happening here, but I guess I don't have to bother now and just be thankful that this seems to be solved in a good and mature way (compared to some other manufactures that I won't name here)!

I support you Amir, a person with the greatest integrity, and @AsciLab, for coming up with SOA speakers and the courage to launch into business. Despite stiff growing pain, I congratulate you both for resolving the issues. I can only wish you that the pain will gradually transform into full-blown success, allowing me to enjoy new good music.

I remain hesitant to buy anything right at this moment because of how public and acrimonious that was. I will need the dust to settle before I feel confident.
If you (and anyone else) can postpone your purchase until production meets demand then it would be helping everyone IMO.

In many industries, it's a common misstep for new vendors to see more immediate green in going direct to customers and bypassing their dealer network. I've seen it happen again and again, and in every case it backfires. I'm not going to pretend to know the details behind the scenes here, but on the surface it looks like the vendor got green eyes and started shipping direct for more immediate revenue, despite prior payments and obligations, and now realizing the misstep is trying to do the right thing. I just wonder how many other dealers out there are in a similar position... waiting.

If they already had the money for these pre-orders, and were using that revenue to fund production, and then instead of shipping to the paid buyers, started taking in new money and filling brand new orders first....

I do hope they will be able to live up to any current promises made to you?
Once bitten, twice shy is a good model to follow.
Best of luck to ya. ;)

Getting paid to review is unacceptable. Having a product lend for review and making money out of your own YouTube channel or advertisement on your blog is perfectly fine. Having a store, being a distributor, or any other direct involvement that makes you money from sales is not. Everyone here would be screaming on top of your lungs if stereophile or the absolute sound were doing it.
We are already screaming pretty loud that stereophile seems to accept a ton of advertising dollars in exchange for reviews of at least any expensive product. I know they deny it but many of us are far more suspicious of that than you seem to be.

So it is clear for the 100th times, I am personally in no need of income from ASR or TestedAudio. Latter was created as something for my brother to do. I am helping it get started. Once there, hopefully it will be a nice business for him to run. And at the same time, make it easier for buyers to buy best in class products.

Ultimately, none of this should be a substitute for you using your brain. For example, even though appearance of bias is very much there in subjective reviews of Stereophile, their measurements are objective and can be trusted. Likewise as I explained, my measurements are objective and can easily be challenged and verified. Don't run off with simpleton arguments you are writing. Read the reviews and then judge, based on merits, whether bias is involved. Hint: if every expensive gear gets a best in class or best for the price, run, and run fast....

A laughing stock among whom, pray tell? People on Audio Asylum? What's Best Forum? The playground in your mind?

(I'm laughing at you.)
Every once in a while my google searches will lead me to some other forums I will not name. I have often come across threads that derail into making fun of measurements. Particularly humorous was a thread on DACs where the consensus was "All he (Amir) does is measure them and then gives them a rating. That doesn't tell me anything, he doesn't even know what it sounds like"

On topic: very excited to hear that things are being resolved. I am one of the people that wouldn't let much get in the way of buying these speakers unless I personally ran into a problem with them but it is certainly more comforting to see resolution.

Is there a TLDR about what exactly happened?
It's risky to summarize because it oversimplifies. Many slights, frustrations and accusations were exchanged. At the core, there appears to have been a dispute about how many Ascilab units should be allocated to the US. The exacerbating problem is that there do not appear to be enough units (globally) to fully meet current demand.

Forecasting and providing realistic delivery times is not magic these days, really. People may not be happy when you tell them, but with a solid supply chain and forecasting system it's not too hard... In my company, we have several products that have a one year plus delivery time. It's both a curse and a blessing, but at least both our supply chain and our customers can plan around those clearly published timelines. And predictability is a HUGE priority in business.

Being proud about a year plus delivery time is certainly a choice.

Its a highly volatile market. Disputes between Presidents in public cause wild fluctuations, but once dispute/misunderstanding settled the rebound is stronger.
Some lost their nerve during turbulence and cut and run....
Everyone had their own strong opinion about events, some piled on with mob like mentality.

Just leave it now, yeah?

Back to products, is there an updated roadmap in the works ? With large TVs and led walls being the future companies have started to build speakers specifically for them.

It'd be great to see such speakers on Asciilab roadmap

I have had my company, Madrona Digital in the "industry" before the inception of this forum. The success of this forum, being in top 3 audio sites in the world, is an indication that I know how to manage conflicts of business. Beauty of objective assessment of audio gear instead of personal opinions masquerading as "reviews."

what?

and to think I was so looking forward to your new site Damirko...
