AsciLab speakers are about to launch

It's a pretty small volume (even if it's big for a traditional bookshelf) with a sealed enclosure and it plays very low, distorsion will not be rise accordingly. On the plus side, it's nearly all H2, so it's probably not that audible.

C8T has a much bigger enclosure, and now that I think of it, it might also be a sealed enclosure, I think there's only one real peak at the bass end of the impedance chart. Someone please correct me.

What challenge?

Yeah, poor word choice on my side.

The C8C was referenced to the 8c and Kii3, and measurement wise - looks to surpass them. The C8C/BX8C looks a compeitor to the Kii3/BXT.
After all my talk on this thread I put my money where my mouth is and jumped on the C8C/BX8C preorder.

In the back of my mind I have been contemplating jumping on the AsciLab purifi cardioid system when released, for another place. Curious if it will be on a similar level to the 15c, although we only have pics of the 15c so far - but what a beast!

slightly OT...but if I want two active surround speakers to complement the C8C+BX8C fed by an ATV going through the new miniDSP Tide16, what options would you consider? I'm looking for options that wouldn't break the bank for these surrounds but still deliver good performance.

I'd consider the Neumann KH80 and Genelec 8020/8030.

Are you sure you want actives? C6Bs and a handful of class D amps would do just as well.

no I'm not sure at all :D - I just thought I'd also need actives to be "consistent" in my set-up. Is there a benefit to go passives for the surrounds?

F6Bs for the reason mentioned above.

The only clean way I can think of to run active surround sound is using Genelec Smart IP.

You then trade the two copper wires for a single Ethernet cable per speaker, carrying both power and data.

Expensive though, and having a mixed Genelec Smart IP/ Ascilab setup with Atmos and ART would be a real challenge to set up.

I'm not a tinkerer, nor do I aspire to be. AsciLab passives it will be then! thanks all for your input

What is the recommended distance from the front wall for the C8C's. Would 1m exactly be a good distance for the speaker or does it need to be closer? And, just to be clear, we are referring to the distance from the front wall to the active acoustic center of the speaker, not the back of its cabinet?

Most ‘proper’ manufacturers suggest between 10 and 60 cm from the front wall.

Nice suggestions. I have both KH120 and Genelec 8040b - was thinking of using one for rear support / surround using Dirac ART when available for PC.
Big fan of ART which has transformed my HT setup.

Some updates from the Korean thread.

C8C backplate. They chose to name it Studio Monitor, I didn't know that.

The C5 Centre at the middle of the picture, not the bracing. Also note the trapezoid enclosures for the midwoofers in the C8C.

Note the separate box at the back of the C8C for the plate amp. I can't see any further bracing, maybe it's unnecessary because the woofers are dual opposed, or maybe it's just not visible here.
