AsciLab speakers are about to launch

sorry for the n00b question but I'd like to add 2 surround active speakers to my set-up once I have the C8C+BX8C. I plan to stream from a Wiim Ultra out USB into an Okto DAC8 Pro and then analog out into the different active speakers. But in this set-up I'm missing a device to do the processing/time alignment, right? Is it imperative to use an AV processor for such a use case or is there a way without? thanks!

1: Ascilab Actives use DSP crossover so there's no point in buying high performance, expensive DACs like the DAC8.

Feed the speakers via AES/SPDIF, and you'll get higher fidelity at a fraction of the cost.

2: which surround sound processor is right for you, depends on what source devices you will play surround sound content from, and which surround sound formats you would like to decode.

how do people normally use digital input to a speaker like the C8C? it requires a source device with dual SPDIF output, one to each speaker? or you run one SPDIF to the left speaker, then a second SPDIF from the left speaker to the right speaker?

Usually this.

The C8C has SPDIF in and SPDIF out.

You do source->Left speaker->Right speaker

I do agree, but the Okto has AES/EBU output with digital volume control. If you have a pc as a source then Dirac ART beta or other dsp potentially come into play

Are there any updates on the upcoming active bookshelf speakers (the AsciLab homepage lists them as “coming soon”) or the smaller C5C? When will they be released, and how low will they extend?

If the speakers are switched to ‘analogue’ input , then it is the usual left out to left speaker , if switched to ‘digital’ input, AES from your streamer to one speaker’s ‘in’ then from theat speakers ‘out’ to the other speaker’s ’in’, daisy chained .

Reading the last pages of thread shows really the douchebag behaviour of people.
What does that mean? Should potential buyers rejoice that they actually have to pay more for no additional services?

There are companies that offer both: direct sales from the factory OR the option to purchase from a dealer. The customer can decide for themselves.
I think that's the best approach.

Manufacturers who sell directly into one of their retailers. ‘territories’ tend to lose that retailer pretty quickly.

@AsciLab
C8C and sub. Could they be mounted on wheels? At least for the first few moments to find the best position? Do they have a threaded bottom?
I have a set of Herbie's Gliders under my spikes. Protects the hard floor and allows easy movement, albeit my C6Bs and stands will be considerably lighter than C8Bs...they come in different sizes though for larger/ heavier speakers.

is it confirmed that the C8C+BX8C will come with spikes? if so, I need to look into this further as I have hardwood flooring...

Hi

I understand the criticisms of some about AsciLab the company. These can only make them grow and become better. But it needs also to remember that such a young company is trying to find ways to consistently design great products, manufacture these correctly so as to be true to the designs, find ways to sell them to make sure they make a profit, and deliver/ship these in a challenging global environment.. We may need to be more understanding, perhaps lenient : Companies that manufacturer great products (in this case some truly spectacular and SOTA wares), deserve our support.

I am in no way affiliated with them, I am not a customer, but about the performances of the products in their lineup, I can only remain in admiration.
This said, and in spite of my reluctance to go active for my endgame speakers, I think the C8C/BX8C could be "it" for me. ;)
