AsciLab speakers are about to launch

What I'm curious about is how the S8C will compare to the C8C + BX8C at 'roughly' the same price.
Of course physical limitation is the biggest different point. Like the bass Max SPL. But the S8C will be pushing the boundary product. It can’t be compared only by price.

C8C and BX8C will be connected by thick aluminum plate with bolting. If you do not use the plate you can tilt the C8C down, but we don’t recommend. The tweeter point will be at 1.15m from the bottom. If you have enough listening distance, you will be in proper beam range.
Any suggestions on min/max listening distance? I understand max is more difficult, rough guidance is fine. For example Neumann publishes recommended and "feasible" numbers.

I also tested 101dB MTON, but the crest factor of multi-tone signal is too high to get “driver” distortion only. Amplifier limit distortion overwhelmed over the whole range. So I uploaded to the 96dB MD distortion.
Are you getting amplifier distortion for the bass module or the top one? Or both?

Is there anything you can share about the bass module? How many channels are you using?

You mentioned previously there's not a simple crossover, are you able/willing to share more details on that?
Yes. The Mid to Bass crossover is around 180Hz. But it’s not like textbook crossover. Lot of range is mixed by several woofers with different phase and different roll off. Below the 100Hz the whole subwoofer play the same range, but different phase.

I’ll answer you after some calculations.

Incredible results, congratulations to AsciLab team! Add WISA and these are an immediate purchase: are there any plans to do this in future?

Top module I guess. Probably tweeter amp.
Multi-tone signal crest factor is about 12dB. If I play 101dB, its peak factor is around 113dB. It’s the maximum output of the tweeter and tweeter amp. Of course you won’t hear the distortion in the normal music curve.

Bass module is two channels.

We don’t have a plan about WISA yet. At least for the C8C and BX8C. You can use a player that has WISA feature and digital output.

AsciLab,

Thank you for sharing the measurements of the C8C/BX8C in post #2,088.

This will bring a lot of of smiles to ASR members, including two dealers for AsciLab. :)

In a wish for 2026, may Samsung offer to become a minority investor through Harman International at an eye-popping total valuation for AsciLab !

Overloading the 100W tweeter amp in the FusionAmp is something I did not see coming.

Is the MTON stimulus something from Klippel or from the IEC spec, or your own? What is it exactly?

Apologies for the amount of questions, but it's almost unseen to have speakers perform to this level with a designer willing to engage. Thank you.

You're welcome.

MTON is the Klippel multi-tone distortion measurement module. There are several curves. We use IEC curve that is the same with Erin uses AFAIK.

Octavio announced at CES 2025 Harmony Link Core for active speakers or subwoofers, the Link Core makes any active system compatible with Harmony WISA technology, but until today no shipping product. https://octavio.fr/pages/harmony

I have looked at that document before, I couldn't find a good description of the IEC curve that isn't hidden behind purchasing the whole IEC 60268-21 document. There's a somewhat vague description on AudioXpress, but I think it presumes you will purchase the IEC document at some point.

Great spot, thanks. Could be a solution to the fact that AsciLab is not networked / or WISA ready, for some reason. More boxes but less wires, I guess

I hope the exact opposite, such a good designer, I hope he's also a good enough manager, the last thing I wish for him is to end up in the jaws of some giant that starts putting its hand on construction, to fatten up the partners, very good at fattening themselves, who don't care at all about management. IMHO

I would want an arrangement ONLY where the founders of AsciLab have a controlling interest.

Congrats on what looks like a sensational design, AsciLab :)
I love the idea of an ultra-low distortion system, and this looks like it
We await the opening of orders for Australian customers!
